So when you were upset that you needed help none of them knew to help you because as you met them they could not help themselves, but hanging around you helped them to express themselves something they can't return. From the emotional abuse and your mom getting sick was probably the cause of the stress and anger and change. But you are born who you are, you can't do nothing else about it besides make a few changes & just be glad for what you do have instead of what you don't have.
How many black dudes straight outta philly a teacher in another country like South Korea? Lol you building experience with that. That sure transfers into higher professions or even working in a school district in the states making a good salary. With all the animated cartoons and story telling and knowing how to connect with children in a positive way, you could be the next Marc Brown. You gotta give yourself credit where credit is due.
