My boyfriend calls himself "big daddy" at first I thought it was really weird, but it's kind of growing on me. He says "come to big daddy" when he wants to cuddle and stuff like that. But for us it's a little more sexual, he doesn't really do it when talking about normal stuff. Kinda like "do you want big daddy's dick", he never really expects me to say back to him tho. And I think he only says that stuff cuz some of the mexican rappers he listens to go by "king daddy" or "big daddy".

I personally like to be called daddy particularly during sex. The reason is its like her telling me she loves me and trusts me to protect her and provide for her just as her father has done for her. Its kind of an assertion of my masculinity and of her femininity all at once. So perhaps this is why he says it, it makes him feel good when you respond as a reasurance that you view him in this way.
I don't know if it necessarily means anything. I work with a guy who calls himself daddy. For example, he'll say something like "time for daddy to cut some steaks". (I work in a restaurant) He is in his forties too. I think it's just a way of being dominant. Daddy=head of household. I wouldn't think too much of it.
