Honestly him being the way he is it's not a sign that you are off to a bad start or that he doesn't like you he is 14 years old he probably doesn't know what it is like to be loved he may have never had anyone ever hug him before my advice is to try not to force anything remember you only rescued him on the weekend he doesn't know you so be patient with him and eventually he may cuddle with you but if he doesn't it still doesn't mean he doesn't like you

Give him time. Rescue dogs have experienced a lot in their life, and apparently he didn’t receive much love, so he’s not used to affectionate owners.

I don't think this is necessarily a bad sign. My dog does not cuddle much, and I have had her since 6 weeks. Your dog is a 14 year old rescue. I think you should adjust your expectations.

Give it more time, keep showing him love and he'll return his affection before you know it.

Dogs are just cautious & curious of their owners give him time to open up, don't expect quick
