It depends on the conversation and the length. If their parents passed away and they just need the support or they just lost their job and need some encouragement, it might be worth an hour conversation or so. But it also depends on the consistency too. Even once a month might even be too consistent but a couple of times a year might not be too bad

Of course you should be able to talk to whoever you want and at the same time if you're in a new relationship where you've made a commitment then you need to be grown enough to honor that commitment. So if there's a chance that you might slip up then you should decide on your own that you need to make boundrys and if you can't then you shouldn't be in a new relationship.

It depends on what you mean by talk. I have one ex that I'm friends with. The relationship lasted all of 2 weeks, and we realized what a huge mistake it was so we backed off. She's married now with kids. She's literally the only ex that I speak to. And in that one single situation I'd see it as OK.. And by the way the frequency of our conversations is like once a year lol.

First of all if you can avoid this you should. When you had a relationship with someone this changes all dynamics between two people. It will most probably distroy your current relationship with you partner no matter how progressive you try to be. Although a final decision should be taken after consulting with your partner explaining her/him why you want to keep talking to your ex. If she/he agrees then only you should go ahead otherwise I would suggest you don't talk at all.
