But how come so many couples who "love eachother" fall apart then?
You can love someone but that doesn't mean you should stay with them. People can become toxic when with the wrong person even if he or she loves them.
Okay followup: most young people can't imagine "forever" or "as long as I live" how do THEY tell the difference?
Not even older people can tell the difference sometimes. It will become obvious once the relationship develops if you like them or love them. It will become obvious once seeing their faithfulness and energy towards you.
Is feeling someone else's emotions like they were your own, and not just an affectionate or comforting way, love?
Or can that also be classified as only liking them
That can be both. You can just have capabilities to sympathize well. Liking someone: I think about you sometimes. Ehh. Your text message kind of excites me but not really. Loving someone: I think about you all the time. Your text messages bring a smile to my face. Are you hungry? Do you wanna get something? My treat.
One's just plain friendship to me, and the other is for those reaaaally close friends or family
