A guy I know has been cheated on three times. Would you consider him unlucky or label it as an issue on his part?

I don't think anyone here should label this guy as potentially semi-responsible.
Like, for instance, I could say that he may not have good judgement, and he chooses girls who, to him, look hot, but aren't actually that into him. Or they like to level-up, at the next best thing that comes walking by.

But that would be way, way too much conjecture.
And ultimately, the cheater is the cheater. The other party is not all sweet and innocent, with no part or contribution to why relationships end, but they're not helpless victims always, either.

There's really no way to know if it's bad luck or not.
But it is an interesting question. I just think it's impossible to be definitive on what would be wild guesses.

Maybe the world's going to hell in a handbasket (an oldie but goodie expression.) And the good ones are just trying to hold on...

I'd never justify cheating by blaming the person who was cheated on. So no, I wouldn't view him as a little responsible for being cheated on.

If they'd cheated in past relationships and he knew about it, but he still made a decision to be in a relationship with them , I'd view him as foolish , naive and guliable. But I still wouldn't view him as responsible

He's probably a really insecure and toxic person who is attracted to really toxic, shitty women. He's definitely doing something that causes these women to go behind his back.

I always like to say that murder and adultery are the two things that if they happen to you; the writing was all over the wall and you probably did something to deserve it. There are definitely people out there who like to cheat in perfectly happy relationships because they think it's fun, but for the most part; if you get cheated on it, there's was probably plenty of indications it was happening that you ignored, and you probably have a long history of ignoring the other person's needs.

I believe that if a person constantly attracts cheaters, or abusers, or whatever, that person needs to do some soul-searching and ask what about himself/herself makes them attract that type of person? I used to always attract loud, obnoxious, and angry women. It wasn't until later I discovered I attracted those type of women because my Mom was that way.

When it starts to become that often. It's sort of a pattern and I would begin to think that there might be something with the way he finds women (this goes for everyone by the way).

There might be something wrong with what he's attracted to or what sort of person he attracts.

if it's 1-2 times, i'd say bad luck. 3 times and i'll start thinking his criteria or standards for partners are off.

Unlucky. If he didn't sexually satisfy her or the relationship had too many bumps, she could've just broken up... There's no excuse for cheating in my book.
