Why is it that adult are so unforgiving, hateful, willing to hurt someone etc. while children are so loving, forgiving etc. the opposite of adults?

Because young children haven't yet been taught the ingrained prejudices of the previous generation, and hopefully enough manage to resist that we make a little progress each generation.

They also haven't gone through any of the experiences which cause people to develop mental defences which may or may not be seen as callous from outside without context.

Not all adults are the same.

But we are a very weird society.

Too many people interpret cowardice, abuse, bullying, etc. as being tough or strong.

Children are not born to be bullies, to be abusive or to be cowards.

They are taught those behaviors.
