The Power of Words & the Search for God

Words are powerful. They can rip through you like a bullet or they can heal your wounds. They can cut someone to their core and they can weigh you down like a ton of bricks. Words can carry you through hardships or they can create irreversible damage. We exchange words every day and yet people fail to recognize the strength their words carry. I was once told that I was worthless, that I would not amount to anything, that I was a waste of space, that I was unintelligent, that I did not deserve to be alive, and I carried that with me for years. It tore me apart and made me question how I felt about myself. In order to reverse the emotional damage that careless words cause, you have to be mentally strong and spiritually motivated.

I did not find peace until I allowed God to touch my heart and heal my broken soul. The problem is that you begin to believe what other people say and you fall into a trap of self-doubt and self-hatred. I find myself slipping into old patterns but then I have to remind myself that God will always love me unconditionally. He does not care about your appearance because he has created us all in his image and to him we are all beautiful. Beauty does not mean being aesthetically pleasing to the eyes and beauty is not a tangible thing. Your soul is what makes you beautiful and your actions are a direct reflection of that.

We have all seen someone who was outwardly beautiful but that does not automatically translate to goodness. We live in a society that judges appearance and is especially hard on women, but directing your attention to what really matters is most important. Are you a good person? Do you find ways to make other people happy? Do you put other people first? Are you grateful for what blessings you do have?

The key to happiness is not "having it all," but rather appreciating the little things you do have and not taking things for granted. Happiness is not handed to you on a silver platter. It is experimental and requires deep thought and introspection. It means something different to all of us. On your quest for happiness, remember that the world does not owe you a single thing. Release your sense of entitlement and work hard for everything you earn. Trust yourself and don't ever doubt your intuition. It will never steer you in the wrong direction. It was God's gift to us to protect us from falling into the hands of the wrong people and the wrong situations.

Understand that every situation you have experienced has turned you into a stronger person and allowed you to be where you are today. All of us feel empty at some point and that emptiness can only be filled by the person who created us. Do not fight your desire to seek help and guidance from him. He knows how to heal your heart. He will awaken parts of you that you never knew existed. He will make you see things crystal clear. He will open your eyes and allow you to catch a glimpse of who you really are. He will give you endless chances and forgiveness beyond your wildest dreams.

He will soften your rough edges and cure you of all the emotional pain you have endured. He will cleanse you of your insecurities and teach you the act of self-love. He will show you that earthly possessions and materialistic gain should never be the driving force that move you forward. Look within yourself and you will find your answers. He will rid you of your obsessions and negative behaviors that are detrimental to your health. In God we can find everything we have been seeking. God is life and God is love. He will repair your brokenness in ways your thought were irreversible. He is hope and he is compassion. Lower your guard and trust that he will rid you of any resentment you feel towards yourself and others. Yes, words can hurt you, so choose your words wisely because you can cause the same hurt to other people.
