So I live in a middle eastern country and I believe that one of the main reasons, if not the main reason why Arabs are so far behind compared to the west culturally and scientifically speaking, and why they are not accepting of any difference, is because of religious beliefs. I have many things to share, but I can't share any thoughts obviously, because it could be dangerous.

15Yes, you may make a case that religion had an evolutionary purpose in the past, but now it's not needed. In fact, it does more harm than good. Many people are not even aware of how Islam was spread initially.
Religion for evolutionary purpose? I have studied in this field and never once heard of that suggestion.
I am fully aware of how Islam was spread. With the sword, forcefully, I'm not saying all religions are good, Islam really is an evil. But there are substantial differences between a false and chaotic teaching like that, and Christianity.
I thought you belong to the people that say religion was necessary for us and that it served an evolutionary purpose (even if it was a lie) and so it was needed. Sorry if that didn't represent your opinion. In any case, what's so special about Christianity? It maked the same claims that pretty much almost every religion makes and most of its followers claim that they are because of some subjective "experience" nothing new. And even though Islam is more dangerous than christianity (especially today), Christianity is less organized. Its book is edited, is based upon copies of copies and copies, translated and has many different authors.

That's what I hope. Many have done this. There's an Egyptian dude who didn't. His name is "Sharif Gaber" he's now suffering consequences.
His YouTube channel gained popularity.
I misspelled his name. It's actually Sherif Gaber.
Change doesn't happen overnight. My belief is that if thoughts like these spread, (some already have and the people who left the religion won't come out for the same reasons) they will tend to become more normal and less "crazy" as my society classifies it. That is a step.
it doesn't happen overnight no but what you are suggesting will take many generations and even then its not guaranteed
I know where you're coming from. I know my society will accept change, ONLY if it becomes a popular discussion. I also want to illustrate what I want to change. It's not that I want to change Muslims into Atheists, that's not gonna happen. Yes, I would like to promote Atheism, but I probably should have said "skepticism" instead. My hope is that religion, although followed, will not be taken as seriously as it is now. It won't be the judge of whether someone is right or wrong. Instead, religion becomes personal rather than the way it is now which is forced ideas that are considered "facts" when in reality they're merely myths that have been inherited by generations. Once that's established, my hope is that religion will no longer be taught for children and teenagers in schools. It's a long shot, but someone must start. My aim is to also provoke the atheists in my country who are afraid to speak up. They should demand rights and once this gets out, we may get support from outside nations. This may take some sacrifices though. The only thing is that you can't determine exactly how many Atheists are in my country. Will the number be enough to make an impact? (assuming they already had their motivation to speak up)
The cases that do happen are individual cases which is why they're not regarded as important and society can easily disregard them.
I want us the minority of Atheists to be recognized. Most of the west probably has no idea that we even exist, let alone theorize how many of us are there in the middle eastern countries.
great idea but im far too much of a realist to see you even making the smallest of impressions.. especially within a system where governig bodies are not elected.
It's older generations that pose a problem. A lot of young ones I feel could be accepting of such ideas simply because the young generation grew up in an environment around the internet. Back before the internet, speaking from myself, I didn't even know that leaving religion was a thing. I was taught that even the thought of that is sin.
But then, I don't want to generalize. My country is full of unintelligent people.
so the majority are happy the way things are? religion or not being the main driver you have to understand democracy to try to advocate it and at the moment you are a radicl who people won't listen too. now im sure someone told ghandi the same thing once but even if you did bring about reform look at india now and you will see its gone right back to how it was and the west itself is only an illusion of freedom... good luck but you would be better moving than trying to change a nation that has been the same for thousands of years.
Until I find a way, I won't do it. If I managed to travel to the west things would be different.
Mmm...
In my country, there's no law to put Atheists in jail. However, society is the major issue.
Move away, that's you're only hope.
