Same here. I’m confident I’d be on a pyre by the end of the day.
"most" people were "not witches"I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and say exactly 0 people killed were witches.Take an oppresive regime and let people think they will be rewarded, or even just less punished, for pointing a finger at their neighbour, and pretty soon your city is on fire.
@Walrus_au Witch old English gender neutral term for "wise" same root at our modern "wit" general meaning of a cunning person, or folk healer, herbalist, etc. As the church spoke against lay healers. There were actual witches by definition. Rare, of course, but more than 0
that wasn't the usage at the time, or now. But even if you allow that, it only makes the whole story far worse.
@Walrus_au actually yes it was, the term was a common term, that was usurped by the inquisition. As for it's modern use, the Wiccan community uses it as it was understood, but not in the common parlance.
Here's the thing. We are talking about the inquisition, so any definition used before they were a thing is meaningless. What matters was how it was used by the church and who they burned as a result.According to the churches use, there was no witches that existed. There were probably a lot of wise women burned (and men for that matter) but claiming the moniker witch for that comes into conflict with the useage of the word based on the discussion. So which witch do you want to change? Because using the same word for both renders the discussion useless.
@Walrus_au to be clear the Malleus Maleficarum (or witch's hammer) the handbook of the inquisition includes healers and midwives in it's list of witch's. This is also a continuation of King Jame's war on the witches and he certainly included wise women
Those professions were not what you see now. And the church attributed the skills as magic given from the devil rather than learned skills. Hence witch.
It to be real, nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition.

I’d be ratted out pretty damn quickly too lol
It’s why I pretty easily could get Spanish citizenship until September last year, iirc
That said, I am a walking blasphemy, so I either leave or burn.
Would you be concerned for your family, your friends or teachers?
Yes I would
