I've thought more or less the same thing as time has gone on. My argument is that if you believe in God and that He is infinite and perfect, then it reasonably follows that He not only prefers but rightly commands certain ways of thinking, speaking, and acting. Because man has free will though, we can act to the contrary (sin). From there it reasonably follows that in order to redeem man and reconcile him with God AND in a satisfactory way, then it would require no less than God Himself to break the power of sin over man, but in such a way that ought to cause those whom He has redeemed to reject and revile all that offends God's Authority, Love, and Mercy.
