Is it okay to write down a prayer and read it? I feel like it helps me to not get distracted or to forget what/who to include in my prayer?

Yes this is ok. The important thing is that you speak honestly and from the heart; preparing your statement before-hand will allow you to better reflect your prayer and speak truthfully. God bless
