Because when christianity was still growing someone, who probably couldn't get laid, convinced everyone that women had to be submissive. Oh yes it's the word of God, totally not a bunch of horny fucks trying to gain control over women. Not at all.
Islam also states that men or women have certain duties. but since men have more heavy duties than women, the woman has to obey the man. By the way, I read the Bible and the Torah. There are similar verses, but they are not one-to-one.
Because the men who made it all up wanted it that way.
They believe whatever the Bible says. As stupid as that is.

You do know that Christ-ianity is centred on following the teaching of Jesus Christ (New Testament, as the fulfillment of the Old Testament).
The Old Testament shares same books with Jewish religion, while this question was about Christianity. The same way Old Testament says "eye for eye, tooth for tooth", while New Testament says "Don't take revenge and instead forgive".
