In the pyramid of importance things in a relationship, sex certainly has a ranking. My advice to people is that, though sex is important, it is not the ultimate. For example there are things that stands higher than sex, and these includes Love, Kindness, communication, understanding, and respect. It is odd to have sex with someone who does not communicate, respect, love, or understand you. But if the listed attributes are in place, then sex becomes an act of, admiration, appreciation and bonding. But today a lot of people place the cart before the horse, by placing sex before love, and when things do not work out, this is becomes the reason for emotional hurt.
Outside procreation, sex is an act of sharing, so couples should be consciousness of this fact and understand that whatever affects them emotionally, physically, mentally has an effect on their partner and on the relationship as well. Sex requires cleanliness, if you ignore your personal hygiene and health, you are simply putting the life of your partner at risk. Sex requires a peaceful environment, some couples avoid their homes and partners because of lack of peace. Most of these couples stay late and only return home when their spouse are asleep. Such should not be a lifestyle. Whatever is the problem, try and settle it through dialogue and communication. So couples should endeavor to make their homes a peaceful place for them to relax, and share. Sex also requires understanding, one should try and understand what is good for the partner, the best moves, and the best positions that are comfortable. Do not be selfish when it comes to sex.
