Halloween: For Kids, It's All About Candy; For Adults, It's...Sexual Role-Playing?

I loved Halloween when I was a kid. I always wondered why people saw this "holiday" as more of a boy thing; girls LOVE to play dress-up, right? I guess maybe because girls aren't supposed to like dressing up as horrifying things...? Well, I dressed up one year as a ballerina and the next as a mummy (damn was I hot) and the next as a werewolf, so I guess I wasn't your standard girly girl when I was younger. ;)

Of course, it was really all about the candy. These idiot teachers and parents who don't allow kids to dress up for Halloween in schools apparently don't get this: It's CANDY. It's nothing else. The kids aren't going to perform a ritualistic sacrifice in their backyards when they get home, I promise. And any other bizarre thoughts about paganism or religion or anything like that were PUT in their minds by...yep, the parents and teachers. Morons, all.

Halloween: For Kids, It's All About Candy; For Adults, It's... Sexual Role-Playing?

But anyway, I digress. My point is that Halloween was pretty much exclusively for kids when I was younger. I know some adults held Halloween parties but frankly, they were pretty rare and just about everything about Halloween was marketed toward teens and children. Something has happened in the past few decades, though; something that makes me wonder if Halloween is yet another day where adults have ANOTHER excuse to engage in bad behavior. We Americans can fu** up any holiday - even the ones that are supposed to mean something - by drinking and acting like fools.

In the case of Halloween, I think it's all about sex for adults now. It's just women trying to wear the sluttiest costume they can find and men going to parties simply to ogle those costumes. I should note that men never seem to wear any such costume; I think it's just accepted these days that the girls have to show as much skin as possible, and give themselves to any guy in a five dollar vampire mask. I guess we could be optimistic about this, though, and say it offers consenting adults a chance to engage in sexual role-playing to spice things up. Nothing wrong with that, whether you're involved in a relationship or not.

Halloween: For Kids, It's All About Candy; For Adults, It's... Sexual Role-Playing?

I know there are lots of people who still like the scary part of Halloween, but it seems to be running a distant second to the overtly sexual overtones this day/night has now. I went to a Halloween party last year and it was honestly the closest thing to an orgy I've ever been to. Pretty soon, we'll find a way to turn Labor Day into an orgy, too, I guess. 'sigh' But like I said, sexual role-playing can be pretty fun (when taken in moderation) and while I don't think it needs to be quite so PUBLIC, it is a new...angle for Halloween.

Any adults out there looking to get down and dirty this Halloween? C'mon, be honest. ;) My boyfriend has suggested that I dress up and get all sexy this Halloween; of course, it's just for the two of us (mostly), but he does want me to wear it to another party. I asked him what HE'D be wearing and he looked all innocent and replied, "Does it matter?" See, that's what I mean. Maybe it's time for the guys to get in on the fun this year; maybe they should try showing some skin, or something. I thought we were all supposed to be equals in the game of sexual attraction, so I should be allowed to see plenty of man candy, yes?

  • Yeah, I've never dressed sexy for Halloween. I go all out when I was a teen and was going trick or treating with my Boyfriend (we were 14) and I dressed up like a person in a bathtub... home made... tub (homemade plaster on a laundary basket) , a fleese jammies with bubbles, and balloon bubbles and a shower cap. Oh and my first Halloween party I was a bee keeper... just made whatever I could from the stuff on my sisters bedroom floor lol.

  • In my opinion, I think (on Halloween) women should dress up in some sort of dominate persona and the men should be dressed up as someone who is completely submissive. Then, women should have the right to engage in any form of sexual activity with any man of their choosing AND in any location (whether it be right in front of anybody, or in private) and the men cannot say no to any request. To me, I think it's hot if the men are the ones who are objectified and used for a woman's sexual pleasure, for at least one dedicated night of the year.

  • The sexy costume thing is rather annoying. People are crazy now days when it comes to fashion in general. I prefer the scary side to Halloween any day. Bring back true Halloween!

  • Every year the day or so after Halloween I'll go to the Halloween store and pick out one or two sexy outfits at half price - for instance last year I grabbed the sexy sailor and Robin Hood. I take them out during the year for a surprise night with my husband who is very appreciative. He keeps asking me days before Halloween - "you're going to the store again right? You're going to get more outfits again right?" He's so cute.

  • I like candy; I like sex. I see no issue here

  • It will forever be about the candy for me. Parties aren't for introverts and I've never been into dressing up sexy either. I will take any opportunity to make myself sick on sugar.

  • Sorry I got to this late here a link for some cool historically accurate costume ideas. https://takebackhalloween.org/

  • It's time to focus on the real reason why we participate in Halloween:
Getting high on candy, for sure!

  • I live in Switzerland so Halloween isn't really a big deal here but it sounds great ^-^. I don't really see anything wrong with it. I'm sure you can find some man candy somewhere haha :). Maybe there should be more orgies ^^. If I become president I will have ten orgy days a year where everybody is supposed to behave like Halloween or worse :P.

  • I like the mouse and the lobster costumes.

  • MARKETING - When I was a young adult in the 1980s, the weekend before Halloween was a normal night out, the odd person dressed up. Now it is one of the biggest nights of the year with bars and clubs trying to outdo each other for the "Happening" fancy dress party where the drinks flow and the tills keep ringing.
Maybe I am a cynic but I belong to class of people who think the commercialising of Valetine's day was done to fill the gap for Hallmark between Christmas and Easter.

  • Never liked Halloween.

  • Yeah pretty much lol.

    Children = fun innocent holiday.

    Adults: Fun, sexy holiday.

  • Honestly I do like the spooky scary part of Halloween. It's what makes it my favorite holiday. And nowadays people don't need much to be mostly naked at parties. There's underwear parties. Foam parties where it's the basically the same thing only your undergarments now get really wet. There's Christmas parties where girls basically wear a Mrs. Claus outfit with the skirt going maybe half way down the ass. And role playing during sex shouldn't have to be reserved for holidays like Halloween. I don't know I guess maybe I've just been around enough events where girls (and guys) wore as little as possible that I've just become desensitized and bored of the whole "dressing sexy" thing.

  • Halloween is fun and cool ♥

And yes, I agree with your take. haha at your boyfriend x) Go and have some fun :D

  • I wonder what kind of roleplay that lobster will be doing...

  • I guess after some years or decades if females continue dressing up like that even Halloween will be sexualized

  • Only for women, only women are truly sex objects (it's a good thing for women), well men are sex objects to gay men.

  • adults use it as an excuse to show off and go nuts in the street

  • I can't believe when I hear people my age who don't enjoy candy binging. I'll eat a whole bag of mixed candy bars.
