Pornography: An Extension of the Oldest Profession in the World, or Closet Sexual Abuse?

Pornography: An Extension of the Oldest Profession in the World, or Closet Sexual Abuse?

The Pornographic industry has reached its peak in the recent years, and today it is claimed to be one of the most prosperous industries with thousands of adherents. However, pornography is a contradictory issue that continues to be argued about. Debates on whether pornography is at all needed continue up to these days, but the solution to the problem has not yet been found. There are both pros and cons of pornography. Some of the most popular of them will be analyzed further.

As with last time, I will remain neutral the entire time, even in the comments. There are many people who might think it's silly this is a debate, but here in the United States of America, there are many people(especially women) who think it should be outright banned.

The Case for Pornography: Pros

Pornography: An Extension of the Oldest Profession in the World, or Closet Sexual Abuse?

1. Pornography Further Educates us on Sexual Relationships

Some people claim that instead of provoking a disrespectful attitude to everything related to sex, pornography encourages people to treat sexual relations with more respect. If a person is not that interested in pornography, however, it may be regarded just as a reference. This means that a person treats pornography as guidelines for inspiration and further actions. Furthermore, both partners may enjoy watching pornography if it inspires them towards sex. It might be regarded simply as a toy for people in love. Some couples watch pornography simply to satisfy their sexual desires and fantasies. Moreover, they might use the material in the pornographic movies for further action. It is not bad to treat pornography in the above mentioned manner. If a couple is interested in experimentation, they might enjoy watching pornographic movies and afterwards get pleasure from sexual intercourse with one another.

Common Rebuttal: We can educate ourselves on sex without resorting to sex videos, or images.

2. We Should Have the Legal Right to Indulge in our Sexual Desires

In my opinion, this is the strongest argument on this side: It's our right to do whatever we want, as long as we're not harming anyone else. If I want to watch pornography, I should have the freedom to do this. If a consenting adults want to have sex on camera for some cash, then allow it to happen. If a director wants to shoot porn for his/her business, allow it to happen. This argument is simple, and gets straight to the point.

Common Rebuttal: This assumes that pornography doesn't harm anyone, especially with sexual abuse allegations.

3. Economic Benefits

Believe it, or not, pornography is a multi-billion dollar industry. Here in the United States, it is actually an important business from an economic standpoint. On top of this, it creates many jobs: Directors, producers, sound technicians, actors/actresses, and so on. It's literally an industry. You may as well call it legalized prostitution, except there is no an audience. It's a game of supply, and demand. Nothing more, nothing less.

Common Rebuttal: Since people often waste money on pornography, it can actually create more debt, and harm the economy.

The Case Against Pornography: The Cons

Pornography: An Extension of the Oldest Profession in the World, or Closet Sexual Abuse?

1. It Displays Unrealistic Expectations

I definitely consider this the strongest argument on this side. Among the disadvantageous features of pornography are unrealistic expectations of the viewers. The viewers see sexually attractive women and men in the pornographic movies that are not always true to life. Some people suggest that watching of such pornographic videos can provoke unreal expectations in regard to how their own sexual partners have to look like and behave during the sexual intercourse. It has been proved that people who watch pornographic movies expect women to be more resourceful in sex, although in reality it cannot always be realized. In fact, people simply forget that those who are involved in pornographic industry just do their job and should not be perceived as those who really behave in this or that way during a sexual intercourse.

Common Rebuttal: This may be true for kids/pre-teens/teens, but most adults realize this isn't realistic, and is only fantasy.

Pornography: An Extension of the Oldest Profession in the World, or Closet Sexual Abuse?

2. Ironically, it Could Make it Harder for People to Become Aroused.

Furthermore, many of the pornographic movies instill a longing for unusual sexual practices in the viewers. If to watch such movies regularly, men and women might experience problems with getting aroused. Some studies have shown that pornographic movies might provoke a desire for experiments during the sexual intercourse. What is more, pornography leads to sexual addiction. It especially concerns the pornographic movies that can be found in the Internet. Just like alcohol and drugs, pornography might provoke a longing for more and more videos. Studies on addictive behavior show that too much pornography on the Internet provokes addiction among viewers towards such kind of videos. Therefore, some people are so desensitized to viewing sex on camera, that nothing really excited them anymore: Almost the same way a full blown drug-addict/alcoholic never gets the "buzz" anymore.

Common Rebuttal: Who cares? That's a risk we take, the same way people take risks with everything else in life.

Pornography: An Extension of the Oldest Profession in the World, or Closet Sexual Abuse?

3. Pornography is Often Sexual Abuse, Masked as a Movie

Here we go, with the most controversial reasoning on both sides: Many people, especially modern day Feminists, claim that a vast majority(if not all) pornographic movies are actually rape, sexual assault, or women who very reluctantly agree to sex. Many testimonials from female porn stars say if they refused sex, directors would beat them. Others have said that they would cry after the sex, or it would mentally demented them for the rest of their lives, since the men they had sex with were so disgusting. There are Feminist bloggers who are former porn stars, coming out, and saying that porn should be banned because it's basically legalized rape.

Common Rebuttal: Porn stars might only be doing it as a job, or for the money, but that's still consent, and this has been blown out of proportion.

What do you think? And please, make some suggestions for a new topic in the comments.

  • I don't like to watch porn u rather just listen to it. I'm into asmr...
Anyways I would watch more if I could find more softer porn where they actually look like they're making love to their partner.
What I don't get is why all the fetish and sexually experimental porn is all rough.
The women are never really sexually pleasured to what I constitute as being acceptable for the level of pounding she will have.

They perform oral on her for such a limited time pretty much destroying her clit, I'd probably be in pain or go numb and feel no enjoyment. To what seems like hours of pounding from dicks to big to be enjoyable.

I've experimented enough to know exactly what I like and what I don't. And I can honestly say I have only made some of those noises and facial expressions when in pain, where as the reality the sounds are so much more pleasurable and the face well we have recorded and I have mirrored wardrobes, I can assure you neither of us look like that.

Trust me. They could have an even bigger market if they tried to appeal to more women. Watching lesbians get it on isn't enough, I for one can say I don't find it turn on but it's been useful for my partner to oral tips.

    • Most women don't watch porn at all. Women prefer erotic novels, so that's why there is such a gender divide on this Take. It's definitely rough it seems, so maybe that right there could be considered abuse.

    • If they tested women's reaction to differ porn it may reveal some surprising results. I like films and porn is another kind. But this grunting grabbing stuff isn't for me. Even the way they kiss is rough. It seems to me men really should shag other men because they understand that rough manliness.

  • You mention there are groups who want an outright ban on it...
You do not really do much for a rebuttal on that one
Pornography is very prevalent in society now it has become normalized there is a huge market for it
Banning it will not make it go away
It will put it in the hands of criminals and that most certainly is not going to make the problems associated with the industry go away It may in fact make them worse...
Did the prohibition in the US turn out great? What about the war on drugs? Or the closest relative prostition... where it is illegal you have many cases of abusive pimps human trafficking rings and prostitutes living essentially as slaves but it has not curtailed it

Whatever one might feel about pornography morally banning it would be entirely unwise

    • Well, whenever a law is implemented, all it does it reduce the prevalence of it occurring. Clearly, laws can't stop everything from happening. We still have murder, theft, rape, arson, etc., even though there are laws that prevent it. Child pornography is illegal, and I don't think it should be legal (that, I will give my opinion on). However, if it was legal, people wouldn't have to go to the Dark Web, and it would be much more common. I see your point-but I don't see why people are so fixated on the fact that laws won't ban everything. Of course they won't ban everything-they never do, and never will. But I don't want murder to be legal anytime soon, or we might find ourselves ending planet Earth soon.

    • Well the difference here as I mention is that it is very prevalent in society it is a normalized thing Most of the things you mention have never been legal since almost since the code of Hammurabi And that makes a huge difference Also the things you mention are outliers most people do not go around murdering other people for example A lot of people use pornography even a lot of those who say they don't like it And that is hugely different

    • I know what you're saying. I was just debunking the logic that "laws won't stop crimes" from occurring. Well, they never completely stop it, and that's not the point. Since adult pornography is so common, and has been legal for decades, perhaps it would be pointless to ban it now, since it's been distributed literally everywhere.

  • Just because they consent doesn't mean it's abusive and the porn industiry needs to rethink how to do sex clips. It can make men see sex in only certain ways and suck at sex because of what they watch and hell bent on piston fucking his woman and always being rough. I like to see good fucking, but it's become "how brutal can I fuck a woman" with throat fucking, gagging, anal sex and having women in like full nelsons while drilling her. It's gotten more aggressive than porn of the past and it's why people are watching more amateur porn than that shit mainstream brazzers like porn. Stuff with regular couples going at it

  • Yes, we get it, you like big butts. Blah blah blah.

I always expect that your use of the language is going to be better based on your screen name.

    • Are you implying that English Teachers can't discuss sex, and pornography?

    • No, I'm implying English teachers should be quite a bit better writers.

    • I'm actually an excellent writer. A good writer doesn't need to write in flowery language, especially since this MyTake focuses on an issue, and it's not meant to be a story

  • Porn has not negatively affected my sex drive. I can imagine that if a guy has an addiction and masturbates, that it might be harder for him to climax with a real woman as some studies have shown. But in terms of affecting sex drive negatively, I don't see it.

Porn is a great stress reliever, and I think it could help with sexual frustration a bit. It doesn't replace the real thing, but as long as you aren't addicted and it doesn't interfere with your daily life, then it shouldn't be too bad.

    • I used to be a porn addict (I don't even look at porn now), and it didn't affect my sex drive personally. But I've read some stories where even males in their 20's had their sex drives affected by porn.

  • none of this is absolute though. Anyone who says all porn is good/bad is a fucking idiot quite frankly, and I'm sick to death with hearing it. Porn literally takes up the majority of space on the ENTIRE INTERNET, and a porn website was one of the earliest websites to exist.

Simply put, if you think all porn is damaging, manipulative and unrealistic, look somewhere else on the entire half of the internet (i. e female choice porn, kissing/romantic porn, feminist porn sources such as 'MATH magazine' etc.)
if you think all porn is educational, safe etc. look somewhere else on the entire half of the internet to find this isn't always the case either (torture porn, deep web, child porn etc.)

but there's absolutely no reasoned point to claim that porn is any one thing, especially when it's so broad. It may as well be as generalising and ignorant as going "well world IQ stats say that many African nations have an average lower IQ, so the entire population of black people on Earth must be stupid"

far leftists/radfems who want to get rid of all porn are quite frankly some sort of fundamentalist conservative zealots with little to no sensical arguments, and they're not the only one's. Same goes for some religious puritans and elderly conservatives

  • Their are no pros to pornography, all it does and had done is made society obsessed with sex and lust.. it's has killed marriages and relationships.

    • And that is bestiality, that makes no sense cause a Octopus has a beak. That would be the most painful sexual encounter ever for a woman..

    • Interesting point. Perhaps someone could say society has always been obsessed with sex though? Even before photography was ever invented?

    • Sure but because we are in the age of technology and the media, its pushed more now than ever.. we see sex constantly being pushed down our throats cause unfortunately, sex sales. It's in movies, shows, tv ads, beauty ads..

  • I wouldn't say its Closet Sexual Abuse but it is Closet Sex or solo sex. Men have been masturbating since the beginning of mankind because God or Mother Nature, which ever you prefer, put pleasure in a mans penis and when he inserts his erect penis into a female it gives her pleasure too and often creates a new life. If it wasn't for the pleasure in a mans penis mankind would never have survived. Pornography is just a relatively new word that describes the depiction of people engaged in various types of sex and men find it much more pleasurable to look at something erotic or sexually stimulating when they masturbate. Its appears to be likewise sexually stimulating to many women from what I have read although not as many women find it so or need it to to masturbate. I think it can be addicting to many men but I don't see it causing any problems unless it negatively affects or interferes with a persons personal or occupational activities.

  • I don't think we need to ban porn, just stop associating it with realistic sex or sex education. Consenting adults can do whatever they want, and that includes many different types of behaviors. What I know from a personal standpoint is that porn stars tend to have health problems, be drug addicted and die young. I don't know if there's a statistic for it, I'm frankly too lazy to research this right now, but I wouldn't be surprised.

    • I've heard many of the same things about porn stars. They have health issues, and drug problems because they lose their self-worth, as many of them state in interviews. Many of them feel ashamed for what they do.

  • I have acted in porn, and I am tied into a group af sex workers and former sex workers. I also have a friend who is a producer and owns a production company.
I have never heard of an actress being forced into. any sexual situation, I have never experienced this, nor have I heard complaints about this issue. It may happen, but not in my experience.
Second one of the strongest cases for pornagraphy is the reduction of rape, there seems to be an inverse correlation between sexual assault and porn www.psychologytoday.com/.../evidence-mounts-more-porn-less-sexual-assault
And lastly pornagraphy is one of the few fields where women make much more than men, in my case I was paid less than a tenth of the female actress (I was paid a few hundred bucks a movie and she a few thousand).

    • The reason why porn actresses are paid more than porn actors is due to supply, and demand. Most people love to see naked women, but only so many people want to see naked men engaging in sex. Did you like acting in porn?

    • No, but so be it. It was an experience and I met a few cool people (including the actress, we're friends to this day). But not something that I would recommend.

    • I know female porn stars can come in many shapes, and sizes, but do male porn stars have an extremely rigorous physical standard to pass?

  • Huh? Directors threatening to attack pornstars if they don't have sex? 3's new to me.

    • If it's true then there needs to be some changes to the system. More police involvement/monitoring or something.

    • It's funny how women are happy to work in porn for years, then when they retire they come out with all this bs.

  • the first pic reminded me of last night

    • Please don't tell me you enjoy having sex with octopi.

  • Fat asses. 😂

    • Are you surprised?

  • Damn, all the ladies have huge butts. Does someone have a fetish?

    • That's an educated assumption.

  • I think you have made ALL the points VERY clear! I agree with you!

    • How do you know if you agree with me, or not? I haven't given my stance on the issue.

    • Well, as far as the pros, and cons go...

  • If we ban porn for unrealistic expectations, then we must ban romance books and movies as well 😁

    • Good points. I guess some people could refute this, since Hollywood movies are fake, while romance novels are just words, and pages, with no images, or videos.

    • If we banned porn, then I *suspect* they'd take it do far as to ban erotica, so romance novels too...

    • I love how a woman downvoted your comment. If we look up unrealistic sex, it's 'unnatural' or even 'bad' apparently, but obviously people don't think it's the same when it comes to romance :P

  • I think its bad more than anything. Studies show its bad for the brain and itrs generally tacky, exploitative, degrading and demeaning

    • Interesting point.

  • I like all the ass in this post 😂😂

    • Me too.

  • Why do the women all have gigantic asses? Is that something to do with the rebuttal?

    • No, I'm just obsessed with gigantic asses, and since this is a lust-based MyTake, I decided to have some fun!

  • Ok I’ll take on “ unrealistic expectations”. This could be said for anything we watch on tv. I mean what about the little kid who watches Major League Baseball But can’t hit a home run when he plays with his friends? Or when I go to the gym but don’t look like a professional body builder? It is ridiculous to to get unrealistic expectations from watching porn.

    • I guess it's because a kid could be a MLB player someday, or someone could be a professional body builder someday, but the acting in pornography is fake, and you'll never experience it in real life.

    • I would say it easier then ever to get into porn. Much easier then professional sports. You could even produce your own on one of the cam sites.

  • I prefer animated porn, so #3 doesn't apply.
