Trying to understand why most girls would rather be seen topless than bottomless!

Thoughts about this from THIS GUYS perspective (NOTE: I'm a guy AND only represents me) Generally speaking guys would love to see have girls (at least the attractive ones) hidden by their swimsuit and that is a private area, but given a choice, if they couldn't see everything, most guys would get more excited to ogle exposed boobs than just see a girl sans knickers.

Similarly Girls would choose to expose their breasts before going with nothing below the belt (See: Girls, Topless or no bottoms? Cover your boobs or keep your knickers?) One said, "my Vagina is my private area, boobs are just boobs" But both are private areas and guys are more interested (at least visually) of checking out your breast than peeking at you seeing you without bottoms.

Female genitals are mostly hidden (inside the body, between the legs and maybe even with some hair). You really wouldn't be showing much, if anything that isn't already shown in that bikini. I guess what I am missing is that there is private and then there is PRIVATE. Another girls said, "my v feels much more vulnerable than my breasts".
This really makes sense because... IT IS more vulnerable! I guess this begs the question, why do we cover boobs? It almost seems like the only reason they turn us on and we want to see them is because they are (at least partially) hidden.

  • I think this changed between generations. When my mom was young it was no big deal to go around bottomless because you were covered in pubes. Now if I take off my panties anyone can see my lips and my vag sticking out. And most of my boobs are out all the time - exposing the nipples doesn't make that much of a difference.

    • This is an interesting perspective. I wondered about pubic hair and if it would be “protective” or embarrassing or both! Also It’s good to be reminded of how self conscious a lot of girls are about their labia! First of all, I think you overestimate how visible your lips really are unless you’re really spreading your legs. And secondly, girls your vulva is beautiful! Everyone is different and everyone is lovely.

    • A part of me can be beautiful, and I can still not want to share it with everyone. I never said I thought my vag was ugly, just that I don't want to walk around sharing it with everyone. I want to save it for special people!

  • Are women more self-conscious about breast size as how their V looks? The latter is hidden as noted. Is it more they aren't happy with the shape of their keister? Frontal nudity without the bottom would seem easier. The bottom is more revealing from a backside shot.

  • This question has a simple answer. It does not matter how you or any man views breasts. They are secondary sexual characteristics (like your Adam's apple) not sex organs. If we covered up based on what the opposite sex finds sexually appealing men would not be allowed to walk around shirtless either because news flash most women are far more turned on by a shirtless man then we are with a man who has his dick out.

    Breasts are not universally sexualized and even in western culture our preoccupation with them is relatively recent. There was a very high society lady in the 14th century who had her dresses specifically designed to reveal her favourite breast. Not her cleavage her entire breast. This was a time period when ankles were considered scandalous. Breasts are for feeding babies and have no more to do with sex then a hand or a mouth does.

But if this is true that breasts are like Adam's apple/and breasts are for feeding babies and has no more to do with sex than a hand or mouth, why do we cover them in this society, and why do guys (and in a different way, girls) get so worked up over them? Some girls want a lot of breast play to get turned on or even orgasm. I think it's pretty unusual for a girl to want their hands turned on to climax...

    • We cover them up because Western Culture sexualizes them. Not all cultures have breasts covered. There are places in Africa that have women walk around topless all the time like it's no big deal. Even in Western Culture our obsession with breasts is relatively recent as stated by my comment about the woman in the 14th century. And people have all types of kinks. I know lots of women who go wild at men sucking on the ears but we aren't claiming ears are sex organs now are we.

  • Breasts are generally exposed more in regular clothing and shown completely bare in far more media, there's a conditioning behind that, that one is more private than the other.
    You asked why do we cover boobs? Again cultural conditioning. In the past conservative society labelled breasts as sexual and needing to be concealed
