The One Board Game That Could Improve Your Relationship

So I want to tell you about this board game. It used to be called 'A Hot Affair', and I think it's been slightly rebranded now to be called 'Monogamy' (which makes it a bit more palatable to some). I bought this many years ago, so I'm very familiar with it. I thought of it today, reading through some relationship questions on GAG, and realized that this could be a great help and activity for anyone who wants to either get to know their partners better, or spice up a relationship that could use some more heat, or intimacy.

What makes this game good is it is a really nice blend of words and activities that can appeal to both men and women. It is definitely 18+. It is erotic and provocative, but it also has a very intimate element to it. The majority of the example cards online are showing the ''passionate", "steamy", and "fantasy" cards, which are mostly physical actions and talking about sexual fantasies and preferences (sometimes acting them out), which the guys will probably particularly love. And then you have the "intimate" cards which are sometimes romantic actions, but mostly about talking intimately. You will see cards asking each other to express how you feel about each other (favourite features, first impressions when you met, partner's greatest strengths, etc.) Those were the ones that both me and my husband liked most. Especially when you make a night of it, have drinks, listen to music, lie around... we already knew each well at the point when I bought the game as a gift for him/us, but the conversation is really bonding. I would never normally ask these questions, looking for compliments/feedback, but if the card says it... hey. We didn't really need the cards to get us to talk or act out the other stuff, and some cards we just weren't interested in and ignored and went on to the next. But most people will find the intimacy cards really bonding, as you get to know how each other thinks, how you feel/what you like/love about each other. So the game's a really nice, random, mixed bag of activities and conversation.

"Monogamy is a board game for couples which is different from other adult games on the market, with the emphasis being on communication between you and your partner - finding out what really turns each of you on and then translating this into an erotic fantasy."

  • Ha! Looks so fun!

  • Wow looks like it could be fun on a weeks long quarantine

  • If your sex life involves a 2 hour board game you're doing it wrong.

    • What is it with you girls coming after me about sex. Well thank you for all your infinite wisdom. I'll be sure to follow it tout suite. I don't know how I've gone my whole life without you there to advise me. I'm doing sex wrong? You're doing life wrong. Going around making snide remarks, being competitive and negative. Clearly you did not read or you would not say this. Actually, no, I know what it is. Ego. 400 cards with close to 800 ideas and you're so arrogant that just because you're "kinky and like bondage and teasing" you think you know them all, can learn nothing new? Get over yourself.

    • I love playing games like that

  • Those sound great and a lot of fun for those being intimate

  • I used to work in a store called the GameKeeper. Some people our age might remember them. They were a chain with stores in malls across America.

Any rate, at that time (1989), there were several games we sold like this. However, having met the game designer of our most popular one has soured me to these games. Fortunately, my wife and I had... creative imaginations anyways.

The designer was the husband of the owner of the GameKeeper chain... who was THE WORLD'S MOST HORRIBLE BITCH EVER. A bored, spoiled, asshole whose only solution to any problem was to degrade. Lest anyone think I was a disgruntled employee, she NEVER yelled at me, nor called me names, nor degraded me in any way. In fact, she usually praised me. However, the way she treated others was just horrible. Honestly, if I found out she died miserably and excruciatingly, I would not only not shed a tear, I'd smile. Her husband, the designer of a game very similar to what you're showing, was just... pathetic. Incredibly quiet, seemingly cowering, unable to look people in the eye, mumbling, cringing at the slightest thing. I thought someone should euthanize him.

Her daughter was a piece of shit, too. I am by no means the only person who thought so.

However, if this game does NOT conjure up these things from the past, then it looks great! And more power to couples who enjoy it.

    • P. S. Aside from the chain owner, I actually LOVED my job there. I was an assistant manager, and I spent a LOT of time playing games there... plus I got to meet lots of people who like to play games and talk with them. It was fun. Sorry. this was way off topic, I know.

    • wow... just... wow

  • Looks good 🙂

  • I find it so fascinating how people can so readily share things they'd never normally reveal, just because of the pretext that it's "part of a game". Kinda like how horny teenagers play spin the bottle just to get an excuse to lock lips with their crushes lol.

This game looks pretty interesting, I must say. And as an introvert, it really makes it easier to open up to someone... when the "prompts" for doing so are already provided. It gives an easy reason to bring up topics that may otherwise seem "taboo".

Oh and while we're on the subject of board games, I kinda swoon for a girl who will enjoy playing Chess or Carcassone or Risk with me :D

    • Exactly. You get it. Beautifully said. It is rare for people to have such an extensive list of great and personal questions at the ready. And as long as both people are very flexible and don’t put an undue amount of pressure on each other, it encourages sharing, but you just skip over the ones you don’t want to act out.

  • Sounds like fun. I should of gotten one BEFORE I saw my hooker! ;- )

  • TWISTER

    • Uh... if Twister is 1.0 this game is 9.0 😈🌹👌

    • Awwww booooo. They have no idea what they’re missing. Spoil sport. Well you’re right. You could always buy the game in preparation.

    • I'll play

  • Sounds interesting. 😗

  • That looks really fun. I have used Minecraft to do the same thing but not many people have the game so...

  • Chess, right?

  • The only thing that improves relationships is ending them.

    • @captain_voidwalker What do you have against relationships?

  • Great, a new mutation on Monopoly

    • @identetarianimsucks How would it be a mutation on Monopoly?

  • Love playing board games but hate when people cheat.

    • Lol. Uh... ok. I don't know how someone would cheat in this game. Don't think that's possible.

    • Never played but I am interested.

  • Plenty of them are good. Monopoly was a cool board game.

  • Once I get a girlfriend, I’ll have to get this.

  • only GOD can fix it
