Back in the day, the main requirements of a husband was he had a steady job, was free from TB and was able to satisfy your cardinal desires. Penis size was an important factor in choosing a husband. Your job was to clean the house, cook dinner and bare children until he died fighting to expand the empire or from an opium overdose.

With the invention of cinema, Hollywood created a new list of must have characteristics. Now he had to be tall and good-looking as well as having a big penis, a good job and free of whatever disease was doing the rounds. Even the seaside postcards of the era sent a clear message, you're not a real man unless you've got a big dick

But all that was about to change, with each new movie star the concept of the perfect husband grew. Around the same time feminism took hold. Even if you weren't a hard-line radical you were still influenced by the growing movement and the pressure on men increased. In under a 100 year's womens ideal man went from having "long dick with a heavy wallet" to a complex long list of demands.

As the list grew the importance of each characteristic decreased. Suddenly men who weren't blessed with big dicks were able to find wives just as long as they ticked 20 other boxes like being able to dance or having a nice haircut or cool tattoo.

With the Internet came easy access to porn. As we all know pornstars are larger than the average modern man and are closer in size to what you're great grandmother sought on a Friday night. The average modern man felt his 5 inch penis couldn't complete and many not having great jobs or nice cars simply gave up trying. On the other hand small men used to ridicule took up the slack by investing in facial hair, tattoos and acting really alpha. Scientists predict in the next 100 years this will shrink the average penis to 4 inches.

Of course, the truth is that penis size was rarely considered an important issue - certainly not for choosing a relationship partner, though I'm sure it played a bigger role for casual sex partner selection - until porn started to become widespread in the 1990s, and in particular since it became universally accessible on the Internet and women started consuming it widely and regularly.

It's only been since the end of WWII (and not until the 1960s in Europe, due to the rebuilding necessary after the war) that the world has been civilized to the point that women could reasonably survive without a man - prior to WWII, the nature of the world was such that women couldn't survive alone outside of a handful of relatively civilized cities, and most people lived rurally. Survival trumps the desire for a big dick, and so women chose guys based on their work ethic/ability to provide and protect, and based on the small pool of men they had access to. If there were 5 single men in the village, a girl couldn't exactly hold out for a 9" guy - she might die alone before her 25th birthday, or just be considered a spinster.

In earlier times, when the most desirable guy was the top warrior, that warrior often had a harem, but it's not like the women got to choose anything - those harems tended to be made up of the former wives of conquered and killed enemies.

There's also the Michelangelo example: his statue of David isn't exactly packing like Danny D, and like several of his statues, they were based on the societal ideal of the time (Venus didn't exactly have HH-cup boobs either).

So, yeah, penises aren't getting any smaller - it's just the few that most people see are literally in the top 0.001% in size. It would be like only seeing women with MM-cup bras and thinking that volleyball-sized boobs were the norm, or at least the size to aspire towards.

If penis size is supposedly shrinking it's most likely more to do with men not being able to become fully erect, regardless of age, because of some level of poor health, which is more prevalent these days than it has ever been. Societies are literally getting sicker and sicker with each generation. We are literally poisoning ourselves. But that's a whole other issue.

As far as penis size being important to women back in the day, generally speaking, you can pretty much guarantee that for women seeking out the right male it had nothing to do with penis size, more to do with being able to offer security and being fertile to be able to create offspring.

No doubt though there were those who had a preference for something bigger, just like now. You'll probably find though that, although it's fun to talk about, most women don't consider that to be an important aspect of having a successful mate.

There are two main contributors to reduced penis size, in addition to the fact (as the post's pie chart describes) that it's no longer that important to women:

1. Genetically engineered and processed food. All that artificial stuff is new compared to the old days, where everything was naturally grown.
2. The invention of the vibrator. Women no longer need a penis to satisfy them, so per Darwin's theory, the average male penis shrinks... it no longer gets the practice it used to get.

I get I'm late to this and it might be off topic a bit but. throughout history males would often go off to fight battles leaving their females to stay and raise the young. but whichever side won those battles often took over the losing sides lands and females for themselves. which lead to much ethnic blending over the generations as time past. because the females likely submitted to the new ruling males and/or were killed. often times the losing sides young males were killed as away to end their bloodlines. so they wouldn't rebel or regain power some time in the future. leaving the winning males to take on multiple partners and father many children throughout their lives.
