Who would you rather be committed to? a person who is Bipolar or a person who has Borderline PD?

J/W from what i've heard these two type of people seem and sound pretty insane. though i dont have good experiences with people who are Bipolar i must admit that they sound a lot better than those who have Borderline Personality Disorder. the reason why i am well experienced with Borderlines is because my mom has this and growing up with her was a total hell for me. a person who has Borderline Personality Disorder... i wouldn't even wish this on my worst enemies! Bipolars in the other hand i must say that i do have a few online buddies who are Bipolar and they sound like angels compare to those with Borderline. i've also heard that though Bipolars have their type of days that they also have a positive side too as they can be extremely happy, hyper and horny for quite a while; i think i can live with that. opposed to Borderlines who are always angry, bitter, resentful, violent, depressed, dramatic, chaotic and bitchy 24/7. but what about you? who would you choose if you had to pick between the two?

I did a Psychiatry rotation at med school earlier this year and without a doubt in my mind Bipolar is the better of the two. BPD is just terrible. The personal and psychosocial problems there are so big and delicate

I've known two women with bi-polar. I'd never go that route.

I've just had a lot more success talking borderlines down than dealing with bi-polars.

hey but at least bipolars know they have a problems. unlike borderlines who instead will always believe that you are the one who is insane and not them as they always believe that they are right and everybody else is wrong. also lets not forget that bipolars are just wild. borderlines in the other hand are more conniving, malicious and cold heart. you never know what they might be plotting against you and they will always try to control/manipulate you in anyway possible

Borderline. Bipolar people tend to irritate me too easily. I know they can't help it, so I don't blame them. But I cannot deal with them. While I'm just fine with someone who has BPD.

Bipolar. Without a hesitation. I had a relationship of 5 years with a diagnosed bpd woman. My bipolar friends are waaaayyyy more rational.

that's exactly what I'm saying! my brother is bipolar and in the past, I've always gotten an apology from him whenever he gave me a tough time. my BPD mom, on the other hand, is the polar opposite and on the contrary, she would rather look up for excuse to either justify or deny her wrong doings.

Bipolar disorder is treatable and can be fairly well controlled with medication. Borderline Personality Disorder is NOT treatable and cannot be controlled with medication, and is very dangerous to the person that has it, and the people associated with that person.

I'm sorry to hear this but not surprised. Most professionals will not treat women with Borderline PD because they cannot be treated effectively, and they also can be very dangerous to their doctors (false accusations, etc). I personally have a policy of refusing to treat or evaluate them and refer them to female doctors.

its ok, it could of been far worst from the stories I've heard. but I'm actually not surprised that even people with your professional skills can't treat these individuals. my mom in the other hand was never into false accusations. but she always has been a master manipulator and for some odd reason she was always able to get close to all her psychiatrists and therapists. I guess she was good at playing the victim role and convincing them of how fucked up the world has been to her but never speaking about how she was part of the problem. though she did kinda lock horns with my last counselor who she was also seeing at that time. she even switched all because one day she asked her some info about me and my counselor told her she wasn't allowed to do that because I was not a minor.

You seem like you are doing pretty well, which is great. Most children of BPD mothers have lots of problems.
