What is a reasonable age to lose your virginity?

What's a reasonable age to lose your virginity? I know 12 is too young so what's ok then? Is age 14 ok to lose your virginity? I have a sister whose age is 14 and she has a boyfriend same age as her and I think she's planning on having sex with him, but I told her she shouldn't do it at age 14 because it's too soon and she might regret it. I know I did cause I started at 15 and now I look back and think it was way too soon and I wish I had waited at least another year. But anyways, how do I convince her not to lose her virginity so young? I mean 14? Come on now, you've barely started your teen years why have sex now when you've got the rest of your life to have sex. I don't understand why kids are in such a rush to lose their virginity I mean seriously. And I had an STD after I had sex at 15 and I don't want my sister to follow my path how do I tell her to wait? And I mean wait a while at least until she's 17 because that's a more logical age then 14 at least you're almost an adult at 17. So how do I tell her she shouldn't?

  • I wish I could tell your the secret to convincing your sister to wait but the honest truth is if she wants to go through it there is little you could to stop her short of locking her up in her room 24/7.

I suggest that you try educating your sister about emotional and physical consequences of sex. Teach about the prevalence of STD's and the risk of pregnancy. Emphasize the importance of contraceptive use and planned parenthood. Maybe take her visit a planned parenthood center or have her speak with her gynecologist.

  • Try telling her your experience, how you look back on it now with regret.

  • I think it really depends on the person and they have to decide for themselves. The most important thing is to tell her to be safe and think it thorough. I lost my virginity at 15 and it was fine. I suppose I'm not a sentimental so I don't really look back as it as a negative or positive experience; just something that happened. I know people who waited until their twenties and still ended up regretting it.

    • Me too I was 15 and really regretted it because it was with a nasty old man. He was 48. Gross. I felt disgusting afterwards.

    • Just because that was your experience doesn't mean it will be hers. I didn't feel disgusting afterwards. I actually really enjoyed it, even though now I look back and realize how bad the sex actually was.

    • Yes But I am sure you wouldn't enjoy it if it was with a 48 year old man. I mean Yikes he's old enough to be your grandpa!

  • I lost my virginity at age 15 too and I regret it. I don't necessarily regret the age I lost it but the person I lost it to. He was an a**hole. There isn't a universal "okay" age for the first time. And if she wants to do it, she will. She might take what you say into consideration but it might not change her mind. Just make sure you talk to her about using protection so she doesn't get an STD or pregnant.

  • Hold on to it long as u can its not everything its cracked up to be. people are diff everywhere though some people hv sex earlier than others vice versa.

  • After mariage. If he really loves you he will wait.

    • This is not about me it's my sister she's only 14 and she wants to lose her virginity to her 14 year old boyfriend. I told her not to because it's too soon and she might regret it and once she does it there is no undoing it's not like you can buy a time machine, go back in the past and undo what you did. What if she regrets it?

    • Then she's doomed. It's her life and her descion. You can give her advice but in the end she makes the descion. Tell her no. If she gets pregnant don't feel guilty cause she didn't want 2 listen.

    • a 14 year old is not mature enough to be having sex, or getting pregnant, I mean she's barely in high school, lol. What's she going to be a dropout? Just so she can have a kid?

  • I'll say reasonable age is 18+, legally however it should be around 15 or so.

    • Where do you live lol? In most places its 16-18, mostly 18 though.

  • There is no reasonable age, you loose your virginity when you are willing to accept the risk and responsabilities of having sex.

  • 16-17
But I mean some people wait longer even after marriage there's no rush

    • my sister's only 14 and she already wants to start having sex. I told her it's way too soon and if she does it now, she will regret it, but I don't know if she'll listen.

    • Same my sisters only 13 and she's starting puberty and I have to watch out for her cause all her friends are little hot asses walking around like there 25. And to make it worst my sister has some serious curves

    • Sounds like you both have cute and adventurous sisters! Such a fun age to learn about sex

  • I was 18.

  • I was 25.

  • I was 17.

  • 18 years old.

  • I was 19.

  • I was 15 and liked it lots

  • Well, when you're ready. However, I don't think people should have sex until they're at least 18. Most people will disagree with me on that, and that's fine. Psychologists and doctors back me up on it.

    • Yes me neither I think the minimum age should be at least 17 or 18 preferably 18 because that's when you're a legal adult. And 18 is the legal age is most states anyways, I know some people will say 16 is but their wrong in most states it's 18.

    • I had sex at 15 and regretted it afterwards i realized I was way too young and the guy was older then me so he could of went to jail if someone found out.

    • The reason why the legal age is 18 is because doctors and psychologists have studied this, and they've found that physically, a person's brain is not fully developed to make these types of decisions until they are about 18.

  • Fifteen...

    • Ok my sister's 14 not 15 and she wants to already. I think 14 is a bit young. And she should wait till 15 AT LEAST. Even that I would consider a bit young maybe 16 would be a more logical.

    • I... Okay.
