Um what exactly is the circumcision process like? Does it make the penis look and feel very different?

I have always wondered - why do some parents circumcise their boys? Does it hurt afterwards? I only know its something to do with removing the skin. But does this effect sexual relationships/dynamics. And I mean what does the result look like? I feel I should educate myself more on this.

The foreskin originally allows retraction like this series (I added a space):

With circumcision, they cut off a "ring" from the foreskin so it ""naturally"" or to be a bit more valid, so in its default state, it'd look like the first of the second row in the case of a "loose circumcision", and like the last of the second row in the case of a "tight circumcision".

Loose circumcision doesn't really change anything, you still need to clean underneath the foreskin. Tight circumcision can cause problems with masturbation, painful erections, painful sexual activity, etc. and due to the lack of foreskin, the glans (the thingy that comes out as you retract the foreskin) becomes dried out which increases friction and makes it less comfortable for the female, while due to the continuous contact with underwear it can get desensitized for the male.

Technically, another set of NSFW ALERT dick pics that indicate the two types of circumcision:

    • Wow thanks. The second hand experience really got to me there. I can't imagine being those nurses and doctors carrying it out.

    • Oh yes we learnt about David Rymer in phsychology last year - a very tragic story.

    • I looked on the feed and saw a circumcision question. I thought,"Oh, a circumcision question! I can't wait to see Mesonfielde's opinion!" And lo an behold, the first response I scroll down to see. Jolly good show.

  • yeah you should first of all that's a very good thing for men's health because 95% of uncircumcised men have STD and it feels like shit the first 2 days but its super comfy after the look will change too just see a p*rno and you'll get it. finally what we get is better in bed believe me all the ladies say that *.* ^^. lol

    • Ahh so is there a big population of men who have been circumcised? I didn't think about it much till now. But yeah I think the more I know about the male sex organ in all its forms the better prepped I am for the near future I think guys should also learn what they can about the female genetalia. Thanks

    • ""because 95% of uncircumcised men have STD"" Citation needed. Europe has a lower rate of STDs than the USA, and "routine circumcision" is not practiced here.

    • That, and circumcision is negligible compared to using a condom in terms of STD protection.

  • I suggest you Google the subject. It's a religious right in some sects such as Judaism. For many years, it was thought to reduce the risk of cancer and men who didn't clean themselves thoroughly under the foreskin developed a truly suffocation odor.

    • You can clean under the foreskin? Crazy I am learning a lot of new things tonight.

    • And ladies and gentlemen, that's why you *should* clean yourself regularly :p

    • @Asker sure you can, you can retract the foreskin and then just rub it a few times with your thumb and bam

  • I would never do it as you lose sensation.
I think it looks a little cooler, but im not cutting my dick just for cosmetics reasons.

    • If it looks cooler, then just retract what you already have. *eyeroll*

  • Google it and click images it's diagrams

    • Yeah I actually just did that it was interesting but it just looks super painfull. I also read something about it reducing HIV in insertive sex which I never new.

    • They use it to "reduce risk of HIV transmission" primarily in Africa because Africans cannot afford condoms. The risk reduction rate is negligible compared to condoms, and numerous sources state that routine circumcision is not justified for this purpose.

  • Male circumcision is primarily done with baby so I doubt any of us could tell you are personal experience but it is known that it reduces our pleasure. It does make the penis look different. in my opinion it looks better because it looks streamlined and bigger (so I hear)

    • I think trimming your pubic hair to make it look bigger makes more sense. You can still retract the foreskin and it would essentially look like a circumcised one...

    • I didn't say you should be circumcised...

    • Of course. But there is literally nothing about it that would make it "bigger" in fact, you are removing girth.

  • i think they cut your foreskin... sounds creepy in my opinion.

but what i wonder about is why most girls find a circumcized penis sexier? : O

    • I didn't even know that came into preferences either? :o

    • Because they grew up in a culture where people believe that people with their foreskin on harbor diseases, cancer and AIDS. I guess they missed the memo that they have a higher rate of all these things compared to Europe , where they don't actually practice this stuff at all, unless it is truly necessary and there is no other alternative.

    • I believe most women (not me) find a circumcised penis sexier because it is the norm in western culture therefore natural is now viewed as dirty and "weird".

  • It won't make it look much different. As far as whether it feels different, I don't have any experience with that.

  • There are many religious reasons why they do this. But 1 medical reason is that it reduces the chances of getting infections and penile pearly papulas. However circumsized men lose a little bit of feeling when having intercourse compared to there counter parts.

  • I've read that it gets sore for a while.

    • I've read that in some cases, they can cut the arteries and the baby can bleed to death if left untreated.

    • @Mesonfielde in 3rd world countries.

    • No, it is called "medical malpractice". They also don't know how much the penis will grow, and in some cases even cause painful erections on the long term, due to that there isn't enough foreskin left to handle the growth in size.

  • There is something called Internet where you can find pictures and information

  • It does effect sexual because the forforeskin have a lot of nerves

  • I wasn't even aware I was circumcised until I was 11 years old and I saw a comparative diagram for the first time. Parents did it to me for religious reasons, though I understand there are health benefits as well. Can't say that I would have done it myself had I had the choice, but as far as I can tell everything still works down there as it should, so I hold no grudge.

  • It looks better and feels better for both the female and male. It also cuts down chances of passing on STD' s. It is a necessary procedure.

    • It sounds like a pretty good procedure to have then. Why would you say it looks better though? (I have no means of judgement myself just asking)

    • "looks better" is subjective, I think it looks like someone cut off a part of what was naturally meant to be there.

As for "feeling better", there are many sources that indicate that it does quite the opposite, including savingsons.org/.../...ow-8-months-of-foreskin.html and just browse a bit here for some discussion of first-hand experiences www.mothering.com/.../...ircumcised-post-here.html including painful sexual activity as per www.reddit.com/.../ckdok4o

And STD risk reduction is minimal compared to using a condom.
