It's not real people so it has no reason to be illegal- it's just another piece of art... Even if it is a rather... Tasteless piece of art in many cases. There are many pieces of fine art, many movies and many books that depict paedophilia and other such acts within them (though admittedly most of them aren't designed to arouse people).
Either way though just the fact that it isn't real means that there's no reason to be upset about it. It cannot desensitise people in terms of sexual violence any more than BDSM or play-rape pornography does- and though most people would may also consider that messed up and violent, as you say it allows people to watch something that would in a number of cases otherwise be illegal, it's still not real.

Well I personally see no reason for it to be illegal, considering it doesn't involve real people.

I've seen porn online that should have been banned because it actually abuses real living human beings, but isn't - slapping choking gagging etc. - if the biggest issue with hentai is that people draw it rather than act it out, then I think it's totally okay.

OR, since they can look up the cartoons, they now have an outlet to let out their "messed up" kinks. if they're attracted to messed up stuff, then that's what they're attracted to. making illegal or shaming hentai isn't going to stop their thoughts. and not all hentai is messed up. some of it is just making people with perfect bodies that can't be achieved in real life. and not to mention that you can get more expression and even better story and emotion out of these hentai porn that's better than the normal porn. again, I use the slasher and horror movie argument. just because people see a horror movie doesn't mean they're going to go out on a murder spree. people have been doing some REALLY fucked up things WAY before modern music, tv, movies and books. so blaming this stuff for causing any type of problem that an individual does is complete bullshit.

I watch Hentai and with me it's perfectly fine, there are series of Hentai just like anime and other shows. Some more messed up than others, there are very romantic ones, and others more dark. Most people end up finding the messed up ones but generally there are very good ones with nice story, sex, and what not.
