Why do women complain about being objectified but then wear provocative clothing?

How are you going to bitch about being seen as a sex object while your tits and ass are hanging out of your clothes? Is that what "female liberation" has dissolve to? Having the right to dress slutting and encouraging young girls to do the same? I wouldn't be so pissed off about this subject if I didn't see this on the Daily Show. Since when was bitching about school dresscode actually news-worthy? While I do find it stupid that schools say "It's distracting to boys to wear leggings", that's doesn't me you should wear something that shows your camel toe. And don't give me that "You shouldn't be looking there" excuse. If a guy had his penis hanging out in public, so many female would call the police and cry rape culture.

  • Being objectified means being treated as an object, not a human. Objects are not respected the way that humans are. To not respect someone or treat them/see them as less than human, and only as something to be fucked, is wrong regardless of what the motivation for denying the respect. If a woman is dressed conservatively or naked, she is still a woman, a human, nothing about her personality, character or intellect is changed. So simply reducing her to something less because more of her skin is showing, or the outline of her body is shown, shows a lack of respect for her based on your values. it has nothing to do with the woman dressed that way, its about the judgment others are placing on her. In US culture, women are typically sexually objectified because we are still slowly moving away from the idea that women who are sexually confident, (enjoy sex) are bad/whores/sluts, or less than respectable. Our cultures is somewhat prudish in that we think that every part of a woman's body is sexualized so showing it in anyway is indecent. Bodies are not just for sex, so showing parts that we associate with sex doesn't mean they are searching for sex. If its hot and a guy takes off his shirt, no problem, he is cooling off, it a girl does the same thing for the same reason, she's a whore. There is really no difference except that we have sexualized breasts, even though their design is for feeding infants. Women being comfortable with showing off their bodies, or wearing the fashions that are available to them does not lessen their value as a human. The people who see their skin or the curves of their body and thinking that because of that, they are there to be fucked and don't deserve respect are the ones creating the problem. Girls shouldn't have to limit what they wear to school because the boys get horny from what they see. Here is a secret, teenage boys will be distracted by all girls no matter what they're wearing, they're horny. Tight jeans will affect the boys just as much. Objectification based on how someone looks, or how they are seen is the same thing that was done to the slaves brought to the Americas. Because of the color of their skin, the way they looked, they were treated as objects and not humans. This had nothing to do with who they were, just how people reacted to their appearance.

  • You are applying the opinions of different groups of women to women in general, so there is a flaw in your logic.

A woman who complains about being objectified is less likely to wear provocative clothing. I suspect she would be quite conservative in her choice of clothing.

A woman who has no problems being objectified probably has a good understanding of how to exploit her body to influence men.

So really, you're talking about two different groups of women, but applying your opinion to all women.

    • ^ Smart man.

    • While there is logic to your comment. This isn't true with the modern day feminists who attend such events as the "slut walk" etc. They set the examples for younger girls that it is okay to dress provocatively because men shouldn't be objectifying them, these younger girls then think it's normal and in-return get objectified by guys. These girls are left to think, "why am i being objectified for being normal"... When in actual fact, what they are wearing is provocative.

    • @Chinosaurus Well yes, that is true, but I am not knowledgeable in the specifics of what slut walk is beyond your description. The example of slut walk that you make is somewhat stupid (I don't mean you, I mean the slut walk movement). When a person chooses to portray a certain image to the public, every single person who sees them will judge them based on that image. If you go to a job interview, does one not dress nice to show professionalism? You WANT the employer to think you will look great if they hire you. One does not show up to a job interview in a t-shirt, shorts and crocs. When a bum is dressed in dirty, tattered clothes, that also says something about him. People will either be disgusted or feel sympathy for the person, but being judged nonetheless. And so with slut walk, if a person chooses to wear provocative clothing, they should expect nothing less... continued...

  • I've been asking myself the same question, and I've come to the conclusion that some women are just attention whore/stupid A. F. There's honestly not arguing with them, and pointing out that if they dress like a night walker then they're more than likely going to be treated like one. I'm not going to lie, I do like mini skirts (even though they don't look mini on me since I'm short), but I have enough sense to wear something under it like leggings or jegging so things don't turn out that badly. And when I do wear them I'm smart enough to know that sometimes it will catch attention so I'm not in the position to complain about how I'm being treated because of what I'm wearing, but I wear it because it's comfortable unlike pants and not because I want to show off. I do agree that leggings are not substitute for pants, and that they should only be worn under something. .3.

  • Why is society so puritanical and illogical to believe that a woman expressing her sexuality via clothing, and given basic respect as a person are two mutually exclusive ideas?

Most women know guys are gonna look, but I don't understand why some men feel the need to disrespect someone because they're turned on.

The correlation between abuse and lust is ridiculous. "You're a slut because you make my dick hard, even though I fully enjoy looking at you and am free to avert my eyes whenever I want"

  • Nah the only bs on school dress code to me is the 'no shoulder' thing. On mufti day this girl got sent home because she was wearing a top that's a bit loose and one of her shoulders is showing, and THAT'S IT. No cleavage, she was wearing long jeans, and she got sent home after she refused to let her hair down to cover her shoulder which is apparently distracting to boys. How are shoulders distracting to boys in ANY way?

    • It is stupid. However, I think the real reason is to make sure girls don't wear tube top and tank tops that show their breasts. Like I said to another person, schools would do better to use another justification for dress codes than to say "Don't distract horny boys".

  • A penis hanging out isn't the same as cleavage. If a girl has her vagina all out, then obviously that's wrong. But, anyone has the right to wear whatever they want as long as their privates are covered (penis, vagina, nipples); and not get sexually harassed.

    • I agree with you, and yeh penis hanging out isn't the same as cleavage. I think, perhaps going out with a huge bulge may be similar to cleavage/camel toe?

  • We should feel free to dress whichever way helps us feel our most confident and comfortable.

  • Penises are sex organs, "tits" are not; there's a difference

  • Sexual Objectification is an bullshit feminist term, many feminists just like to bitch about everything, so on one hand they would support women provocative clothing that attracts male gaze and women that act like an sluts, and on the other hand the feminists would try to make a men feel shame about looking at women and being attracted to women.

    • "Sexual Objectification is an bullshit feminist term,” WRONG! Does every guy objectify women? No. Is there a large minority of guys that have no respect for women in America? YES. I would say it’s about 10-15% of the male population. Also, I HATE TheAmazingAtheist. He’s such an obnoxious jackass that I couldn’t finish the video because I wanted to puke. Right off the bat, he’s using the “I’m a man, I can’t help it" excuse. Fucking seriously? What’s the difference between being sexy and a sexual object? Did he just really ask that? You will fuck a sex doll, but you’re going to think it has feelings, dreams, aspirations, etc.

    • I don't agree with the TheAmazingAtheist all of the time, but in many cases, and especially on the feminism subject he is right most of the time, but of course feminists don't going to like and understand what he is saying, the fanaticism of most feminists is too great for that, most dislikes that I was getting here is from angry feminists, I have almost no doubt about it. As usual you are trying to distort everything, he was not saying that being sexy and a sexual object is the same, he was saying that frankly everything in this world is object, so it's not such a big deal in the first place, and the feminist claim that if something is an object then it's okey to rob it and/or destroy it, it's totally bullshit. So what is the difference between looking at women and being to women, and "objectifying" a woman? isn't Sasuke is one of the only men who don't "objectifying" a woman? and do you wish that all men would have acted like that?

    • "most dislikes that I was getting here is from angry feminists, I have almost no doubt about it." How is that different from when feminazis accuse people of disagreeing with them because of "rape culture"? They also have no doubt about it. I hate TAA because he's just as obnoxious and stupid as the feminazis, just in a different way. Perhaps English isn't your first language, because in our language, nouns can be a person, place, or thing. Hence, there's a distinguish between a person and an object in America. Are you seriously using an anime character as an example? How about get out of anime-land, and look at reality. Do you honestly think people respect blow-up dolls? Do you think men who pay for prostitutes actually care for the prostitute outside of sex? What about guys who grope unwilling women? Do you think they care for how the woman feels? These are simple questions. I'm not going to entertain your other topics until you answer my questions.

  • I love you. Thank you for being logical and making sense.

  • *gets down on one knee* 💍

Seriously though, keep preaching and maybe you'll knock some sense into your fellow gender. You'd be doing mankind a favor.

  • meh its the main reason i don't dress too revealing

  • Female animals and male animals have different objectives. This is true (at some level) of all animals. The female's goal is to snag a worthy male, reproduce, and then keep him around to provide for/protect her and the young. A male's goal is to spread his seed around as much as possible so that his bloodline outlasts the others. In humans this is diluted a bit, but it still remains in some aspects. Women want men to want them. But it's also popular to be about feminism and such. They contradict each other, but I don't think most people realize it

  • My view is that women primp to look hot not to attract men, but to compete with other women like male body builders do competing with other men. So guys looking on at hot looking girls is more an inintended consequence and may be considered "creepy". But no mater the intent, you can't change human nature. The civilized among us wear sunglasses so we can look undetected. I do that all the time and I catch them trying to see if I am looking, but my lenses are dark and I look "sidelong" so they can't tell. But other guys may be less civilized to the point of doing something inappropriate. This doesn't make it the girl's fault but she must realize that she is provoking things she doesn't want.

  • It's all about getting the confidence boost of looking your best and looking sexy / attractive, getting oogled and groped unnecessarily still is a bad thing.

  • Let me guess you have / want a meninst shirt

    • I'm not going to get into this feminist vs anti-fem BS thing, it's dumb and both sides are wrong/right. I outgrew that phase last year. I actually believe in actual equality and cannot stand hypocrisy. That's all.

    • Ok but let me just point this out you could be in a fucking snow suit and still be seen as a "sex object" its the fact that you have a fuckin vag , then the dresscode thing idgaf if a guy can't concentrate she shouldn't have to change some fucking leggings , lastly have you ever heard of Jackass i haven't heard of them EVER being arrested the guys are practically paid to be naked

    • So because I'm going to be objectified, I should just go around half-naked to look like a sex object then bitch when I get weird looks for it? That makes no sense to me at all. Listen if you want to be the pervert who likes seeing the outline of 12 year old's vagina, fine. But teachers and other students (female or male) prefer not to see that. 1). Jackass was a famous show. You can get away with that stuff if you're famous. 2). Both men and women get arrested for indecent exposure, so what's your point?

  • Because self-responsibility is sexist and blaming others for your (perceived) difficulties in life is much easie. r

  • Lol you sure got me. Some people don't understand that you can't have your cake and eat it too.

  • I completely agree.

ALso, on your profile page you mentioned that you have a tumblr account. Could you link me to it?

  • It's not about what you do/don't wear, it's how you carry yourself :)

    • I think, dress how you want to be treated because the way you dress is an expression of yourself. If you dress provocatively, you are expressing that you are a provocative person. Eg, Man or woman in a suit, this would express they are smart, wealthy etc Man or woman is dirty and ripped clothes, this would express they are poor. Man wearing a mankini on a beach... you get the idea. A girl or even a guy who dresses provocatively expresses themselves to the general public as slut/fuccboii

  • I agree with you.

  • i have been wondering that for a long time, lemme know if u find out why, seriously message me

  • I don't complain about being objectified, nor do I wear provocative clothing. If I did wear provocative clothing, I wouldn't be stupid enough to believe that I wouldn't be objectified.

  • I know some girls that do this , wear sexy outfits in public then complain guys are too interested in them or staring at them or even stalking them. its sad what some girls are willing to do for attention

  • "Is that what "female liberation" has dissolve to? " Yes.

"And don't give me that "You shouldn't be looking there" excuse. If a guy had his penis hanging out in public, so many female would call the police and cry rape culture." Also yes.

These are just some of the reasons why you see so many people complaining about feminism. It is not about equality its just what they keep sayong it is about. It is about double standards like you just pointed out. Women with thier tits haning out, "you go girl" man dressed that way "rape culture".
