Well, kicking your girlfriend out yes. Beating up the guy, maybe not. Maybe she lied to him and he had no idea she had a boyfriend? If he did know though then he kinda deserved it. But you probably shouldn't have though still because he can charge you now if he wanted to for assault.
No, you should have talked to her first. Then react. I'm not saying throwing her out of the house is the wrong thing, but taking it slowly is the best. But, hey it's not a very big deal how you reacted. You should be pissed, she did a very bad thing. You can't always do the right and sane things in these situations. But if you haven't talked to her since this happened yet, I think you should do it, just to sort things out.

Beating the guy was unnecessary. He didn't betray you. Any physical violence against her is unnecessary but (figuratively) throwing her and her belongings out is fine.
