  • I've sometimes wondered this myself. I get why men might avoid dating or marrying a girl who has already done porn or been an escort, but given that she's young and attractive, she probably could have attached herself to an attractive, wealthy young man without getting into porn or prostitution in the first place.

    The few young women I know (through friends or coworkers) who do porn get on a plane and fly out West for a weekend or two a month and do several shoots over a couple of days. It's not something they're doing on a whim to make some cash; they've made a deliberate decision to do porn. My sense is that:

    1. They are drawn to the allure of the lifestyle. Hollywood (the closest most of them will get), drugs, and attention from men who give off the impression of being rich and powerful without expecting commitment.

    2. They place a high value on their independence. That can be taken any number of ways. Maybe they never quite fit in and don't have friends to spend their time with. Maybe they were abused and fear relationships outside of controlled environments. Maybe they have trouble with authority and doing porn is their way of saying they're going to do whatever they want.

    If you don't consider it degrading, you can make a lot of money in a short amount of time. The typical career for most female porn stars lasts only a couple of years at most, but they do so many shoots that it can seem from the outside like they've been around forever. If you approach it with a plan, you can set yourself up for college and your next career and not feel like you owe anyone but yourself. I can see why there's an appeal to that.
