Media outlets across the US are giving fawning attention and victimhood to “former” porn star and apparent new feminist icon, Bree Olson. Why? Because, as she explains in the video below, everyone she knows now seems to think she’s a slut. While she claims to be coming out with her story as a warning to young women, her courting of the press appears to be an attempt to kickstart new income opportunities.

Olson, you may remember, was one of Charlie Sheen’s so-called goddesses during his highly publicized time as a warlock-with-tiger-blood after being fired from sitcom Two and a Half Men. Even as she decries the “sexism” she is somehow facing by being called a slut, she is still spruiking her x-rated videos via her personal website’s membership offerings. Plus, the entry page to this same website features a longstanding Amazon wish list, so men can buy her things. How is this not the behavior of a financially-minded slut/gold-digger?

Unfortunately for Olson, she has only now grasped the concept that when you make your own bed, you have to lay in it. And when you have bed literally hundreds of strangers for money, people are going to cast you in a certain light. No one baulks when lawyers, used car salesmen and others are presented in entirely unflattering lights. Why not porn stars and why not especially female porn stars, representatives of the gender which generally wants sex much, much less?

I literally could care less. Like all people who willingly push themself into the public eye I say grow the fuck up. The world's not a nice place and never been a nice place. If you don't want to be judged for stuff don't put it on a website for everyone to see over and over and over and over. If her tapes leaked and she was some rando girl from bumfuck, nowhere I'd have a little more sympathy and defend her but if you willing display yourself doing things that you 100% know that many people on the planet will dislike and shame you for you can't turn around and cry about it and expect people to be on your side. That's like me going off and shooting a cat in the face in public and expecting people to understand that that cat was a threat to humanity and needed to be killed and not get mad at me. Even if that were true nobody's gonna care. I just shot a cat in the face. People aren't going to like that. Right or wrong isn't the only thing that matters. As an adult you should be able to at least somewhat anticipate people's reactions to certain behavior and if you're not ready to bare the most likely consequence don't do it. Don't make yourself a martyr and expect it not to hurt.

The dynamics that allowed her to get rich and famous simply for exposing her body and having sex on camera are the same dynamics that cause her to recieve harsher critcism compared to male porn stars.

there's a trade off to everything. As a woman, you'll get sigificantly more money and fame for having sex on camera/ dating high status celebs, compared to men who do the same thing but the trade off is people might lose respect and label you a slut.

I don't understand the need for terms like slut. They're antagonistic and don't generally serve much purpose. In most cases when a guy is calling a woman a slut it's referring to behaviour that doesn't in anyway affect him.

I think if you're going to use derisive terms for someone you should at least have a reason to be offended and the people calling her that have none. You have no horse in this race so why be unnecessarily judgmental?

Let me put it a different way. The reasons why someone goes into that business is not because they have good self esteem and a good upbringing. The majority for women in that business have had trauma in their childhood, abuse, rape, drugs are a few to mention. This leads to a very messed up way of thinking about themselves and the world. Most don't even realize what they are getting into because they aren't mentally stable. I know this because this is an area I have studied for my profession. The decisions these women make go much further and deeper than to suggest they do it because they are "sluts". A rapist and a pedophile inflicts harm and preys on others; A women in porn doesn't inflict harm on others, only on herself. And she inflicts that harm for many different reasons. If you can look beyond why and understand then you'll realize it's not just as simple as saying she's a "slut".
