I find that often (not always) people who suffer from various forms of anxiety (like your aunt for example) is the most comfortable when they're around their significant other - so they wouldn't have a problem being with them physically.
If someone is just totally insecure and shy about their body, they probably just turn the lights off and get under the sheets.
I'm shy, introverted, socially awkward and have anxiety :P I manage it pretty well.

When you are alone with someone you're comfortable enough being exposed around, instinct kicks in and you do what nature says. Unless they humiliate you in your most vulnerable state. When that happens, then you become twice as shy. And shun them for taking advantage of you.

It's harder for sure but you find the right person that makes you feel comfortable. Or she got drunk or high lol, in which case that goes right out the window.
When you have social anxiety it's usually towards other people. She clearly trusts her husband which is why she takes him grocery shopping with her. So sex probably wasn't weird.

I'll tell you a good trick to get over that, get fully naked when you are at home alone and keep looking to your self in the mirror every once a while and try to pose like that and then after a while start complimenting your self talking to the mirror, if you want also make dirty compliments and describe your body to your self... it will help you and raise your self esteem
Shy people just take their time opening up to people. Doesn't mean they don't warm up around the right people.
Men like vulnerable women. It's very attractive. Men love the knight in shingle armour role and women love to be taken care of. At least in your aunts generation they did. Ah. To put it simply, you first need to know that people in bed are not necessarily the same people in everyday life. Most people who know me won't believe how I am in bed knowing my extremely introverted everyday self.
Shy people get married and have kids like everyone else. Life is too short to worry about everything. Take your time. Sex is not that important and not that big of a deal.
