If you're a vegan and you swallow cum are you really a vegan?

vegans are all about not consuming anything from animals or anything that basically has eyes. So nothing living. So if a vegan swallows sperm, which a) comes from a living animal (men) b) contains millions of living organisms and c) if it comes from a non-vegan it would have meat proteins etc. So if a vegan were to swallow this is would be going against their morals and ethics would it not? Even though it is given willingly it's still living and comes from a living being. Semen is not vegan friendly

    The most important thing about veganism is to not harm sentient beings. Sperm isn't sentient, and as long as you're not forcing a guy to jerk off in your mouth no one gets hurt. So yea, swallowing is vegan friendly. But if someone doesn't want to do it, that should be respected too.

  • This issue has in fact come up among my vegan friends, and the consensus was that blowjobs are actually okay if you're a vegan because the semen is obtained with consent, and the issue vegans have with other animal products is that animals can't consent to give them. So unless the blowjob is nonconsensual, it is vegan. And honestly, if it's a nonconsensual blowjob then there's bigger moral issues than whether it's vegan.

  • Sperm are technically alive, but they're not a complete human or animal. They exist for the sole purpose of human procreation and have no agenda of their own. Plus, those sperm are going to die whether you swallow them or not. It's not like you're killing them in order to eat them. The fact that you're consuming them is merely incidental.

  • Yes. It's a technical exception, but as you said, being vegan is usually for moral and ethical reasons, so unless men are being held against their will and harvested for their semen, there's no issue.

  • The difference being that clearly the male giving up his sperm is able to consent to the act. An animal is never able to consent.

    For most vegans, it's not even the consumption of the animal products that's the problem, it's the way those products are obtained, and how inhumanely the aforementioned animals are treated.

  • Vegetables and other fruits/legumes are living plants with millions of organisms alive and reproducing on regular basis, some provide fibre, vitamins, fats and some provide protein. Semen/sperm is mostly a protein alive just like the cells of vegan so called items. I don't see a difference.
