Danerys depicts the ultimate Feminist.
With that being said, I got to thinking about that particular girl’s statement and began to see its validity. Daenerys Targaryen is, in many ways, the archetypical Western feminist, and her depiction in the HBO series only enhances this image. Her connection to the modern feminist narrative is embodied in three primary ways:
She’s extremely privileged. Feminism is a product of privilege. Not all feminists are rich and not all feminists can be called privileged, but the movement itself was clearly born of prosperity and, to this day, remains dominated by the daughters of such prosperity (white, upper-middle class females concentrated primarily in or around major urban areas, especially on the East Coast). They are entirely the products of success built long before them, and it is that same success (wealth, safety, etc) that allows them to wield the influence they do now. Feminism as we know it much less visible outside of the prosperous “developed” western world, and this isn’t a coincidence.
Daenerys is a princess, heir to a vast noble legacy founded hundreds of years before her. It is this privilege that provides her with the power (and the respect for it) that she wields in the show, and allows her to act as “empowered” as she does. She is entirely the product of successes built long before her, and it is that same success that allows her to wield the influence she does now. It is her privilege that allowed her to gain the assistance she needed to become the leader she is.

  • I think you probably haven't watched the show if you think she's the product of her family's former prosperity.

    Her family was slaughtered.
    Her father was reviled.
She was hunted by the enemies of her family since birth.
She was a penniless orphan beholden to the graciousness of others who only protected her because of the potential profit it provided them.
She was sold into marriage by her physically abusive brother for his own gain.
She was raped by her arranged husband who had no interest in her legacy.
She was cursed by a witch to be unable to bear children.

    Then...

Her grace and strength won over her husband who fell in love with her and elevated her above the typical status of a Khaleesi.
She led her adoptive tribe (who initially dismissed her because she was a woman) through a wasteland into prosperity and earned their adoration through her own perseverance.
She surrounded herself with powerful people of different backgrounds who were loyal to her for her own choices and qualities, not her name.
She built an empire through conquests of the wicked in a distant land where her name meant nothing and carried no weight.
She built a following through gracious leadership of the downtrodden and discarded.

A feminist icon? Sure... but not a product of prosperity inherited from men.

    • reading your other comments, it's even more obvious you haven't watched the show or read the books.

  • i don't give a shit, she's hot! too bad she fucks with dudes like seth mcfarlane :/

  • I think there are many strong female characters in the show, each is unique and has different strengths, Margaery is politically savvy and knows how to manipulate people. Brienne is strong and an excellent fighter. Arya is also a bad ass, she's independent and knows how to survive. And there are other strong female characters, even if they are a little evil like Cersei or frank like Oleana.

I think Dany is very much a child. She is strong and has confidence, something that she should be proud of because she was beaten down so much as a child. I do like her, but I also want to see her grow more in terms of wisdom.

    • Me too. I love her scenes in the show, and I love characters interacting with her in the books. She's truly one of a kind. And I can't wait to see what happens to her since shit hit the fan in King's Landing.

    • I just hope she gets her tits out again.

  • She's porn fantasy not a feminist fnatasy.

As for power yielded from past endeavors, everyone who is in position of power understanding on the shoulders of other before them... the entire political system is based on privileged for " fAthers".

    • was based now it based on the privilege of being a white woman just ask hillary Clinton to check her privilege

  • I agree that game of thrones has some strong female characters.

    You're wrong about everything else

    • or am I right?

  • I agree. I love Dany. She's strong, independent, and graceful, Plus drop dead gorgeous. I love that she has a heart for Drogo and his people.

    • despite the rape culture.

  • I prefer Arya because she is a true feminist role model who doesn't have men do everything for her.

  • I don't know about feminist icon I mean she doesn't bitch and whine 24/7 and actually does something useful.

  • She doesn't hate men, so she can't be the ultimate feminist fantasy.

    • like most privileged white feminists she strives to be treated equally and respected by her male peers but at the back of it all desires sexually a bad boy Alpha like Karl Drogo or the second sons guy to control and dominate her sexually as well as every other aspect otherwise she won't respect them as men. All the other men in her life are emasculated servants and beta males like friendzoned Joreth Morell or the 10,000castrated unsullied and now the half man imp and the dickless old bald guy. Just like privileged white females she wants no woman to rival her and keeps token women of lower class and of color around to back seem better by comparision. Like most privledged feminists men are useful tools to use and discard.

    • no hate but XD who the fuck is Karl Drogo XD what best thing I've seen all day haha A backwoods horselord XD

  • Nah, lol, she has nothing to do with feminism... she is not a fighter. Real feminist is Arya, or girls like Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

  • she's my ultimate sex fantasy.

  • she´s naked all the time. feminists gonna hate her.

  • i don't know. One thing i do know though is that she'll always be welcome in my bed chambers

  • For me it is Rey and Felicity Jones in Star Wars.

    • felicity jones?

  • No.
A strong women who needs no man and can take responsibility for herself.
Of course, feminist don't like that.
    LOL.

    • does she not have loads of men taking care of her?

    • Every leader needs that.

    • you just said a strong leader that needs no man?

  • She is in the sense that she is a raging, naive lunatic who sucks at running a government. Hell, she couldn't even run Yunkai for a few weeks.

    • True. She spent her marriage nagging Karl Droggo for material objects such as an Iron throne and the crown of westeros.

  • Disagree, they like to be called Mother. 3rd wave feminists thinks women who want to be mothers suffers of internalized misogyny.

  • Daenerys? LOL, no, I don't think so... Xena The Warrior Princess would be much better example.

    • who so strong she can't find a man and ends up in a lesbian relationship with some butch blonde chick. I watched the series years ago while in hospital.

    • 1. Gabrielle is not a butch, 2. Xena actually had several relationships (including with Hercules), she was not a lesbian, that was just a stupid speculation. 3. Daenerys is too girly to be a feminist fantasy, and she is definitely not as strong as Xena.

    • what us a privileged white feminist woman fantasy other than being queen of all, being loved by all, having high status, freeing slaves, having friend zoned guys defend their honor, defeat male patriarchs, have men do everything fot you but while they are in charge, have an army of emasculated and castrated guys fight for her, loads if drama in their lives not to mention being ravished and raped by some bad boy (karl droggo) who they think they can change by nagging for what they want (an iron throne) Sound like a feminist fantasy to you.

  • No way, she is not a badass character, people like her because of her beauty... but without her dragons, and army - she is weak.
I guess the ultimate feminist fantasy would be a girl like Lara Croft ;)

  • Yea but she isn't pissed or bitter about men so not femenist lmao

    • thats because the men around her are brta males that do as she commands ot don't have testicles and kill her enemies

    • Lol beta isn't even anything, Her husband was alphaest as it can get lol she didn't hated him neither. She loved him more than anything, She believed sun would rise from West once just so he can come bak alive again lol

    • yes that describes every privileged white feminist they dispise weak beta white knights and guys that try and get in their pants but love it when a dominate alpha male takes control of them sexually and rules over them against their will.

  • Kain?

  • She is very pale, I searched the web for a pic of her browneye but couldn't find any balloon know pics :-( I bet it's so lovely

    • *balloon knot Thank you, not exactly what I was looking for... but your effort is truly appreciate. Have a wonderful day :-)
