I have read an article written by a disgusting sexist male saying that he knew a 23 year old girld dating a 20 year old guy and that she is a "cougar". HOW CAN SHE BE A COUGAR 'CAUSE SHE IS SO YOUNG? IF A WOMAN IS YOUNG (AT 23 SHE IS STILL A GIRL, by the way, NOT "WOMAN"), EVEN IF SHE DATES A YOUNGER GUY, SHE IS NOT A COUGAR.

I personally think that, in order to be a cougar, you have to have a certain age. You gotta be old enough to be a cougar. Just because you date younger man doesn't make you a COUGAR, what does is AGE. AND THE BIG QUESTION IS: WHEN DOES THAT AGE BEGIN?

I also read some idiot writting how 30 year old girls are cougars. OK, so look at Katy Perry (31), Miranda Kerr (32), Adriana Lima (35) they are some of THE most beautiful and desirable girls in the world, and I am SURE that any 20 year old guy would be PROUD AF to tell that he has slept with them, rather than Selena Gomez (23), Kendall Jenner (20) or Gigi Hadid (21). Because the first ladies that I have mentioned wouldn't be "cougars" in that case. WHY? Because they are young AF, just as attractive as the latter ones, and more confident and more powertful and a "bigger trophy". This doesn't only apply to famous ladies who are around 30, but to many gorgeous anonymous girls as well who are around 30.
However, the situation would change 35+.

Its's not so hard to work this out.

Mentally, a woman can be a cougar at almost any age. A cougar in current day refers to a mature woman who likes younger guys, but the reality of it is that it is a sexual fantasy of sorts. The woman gets off from being older and more experienced than her younger less experienced partner. She likes that she is more powerful and can overpower him both mentally and physically and use him to satisfy her needs. I know a few woman who are Cougars, they told me the best part is that they will intimidate the young inexperienced guy to the point where he doesn't last more than a few stokes inside them before he creams inside there mature hole. It's not about specific age, it's liking younger guys and being older. It might start around 30. Besides, it's not a strict definition so in common usage guys may simply use it to refer to an attractive older women. I'd say if a 25yo is really into guys just out of high-school then she should probably be a cougar. In the end it might just come down to the vibe you get from them.

And maybe those women over 30 you mention do like younger guys and are cougars, so what? Doesn't matter. Who cares?

Your 'bigger trophy' idea really sounds like it's coming from a female perspective, but whatever, lets go with it. Katie Perry is the only one I would really recognize, and I might do it with her just so I could say whenever she came up in conversation that I did it with her, in that respect it's not power or confidence I care about, it's her popularity. Doesn't mean I find her *that* attractive. Actually I had to laugh when you mentioned her. Maybe it's because I find the music she makes a huge turnoff. Anyway, I don't see why I wouldn't feel good (I suppose you'd say proud) about being with any of them, they're all rather attractive and are all celebs, I don't see why any of them are in a different boat. Basically I just don't see why we should care whether or not we call them cougars.

It seems any girl who's older than the male is deemed a cougar. I'm 21 and my friends call me a cougar whenever I date a guy one or two years younger than me. Cougars were usually women 40+ years old who were dating guys one or two decades younger than them. It's more common for women to date men younger than them though so I wish the cougar name died out now, especially as there's no real name for men who date younger or older than themselves.

I would say forty and up. My definition of cougar is a woman who dates guys who are at least half her age, which is illegal for a woman in her thirties.
When I Googled it, I found that the common denominator for the definitions (I checked five) was a woman in her late thirties and forties who seeks casual sex with younger men.

I don't think of it as an age gap so much as a maturity gap. I think some of the women I consider as "cougars" might be as young as 30 if they date, say, an 18-year old fresh out of high school.

So I'd define it as a more mature woman dating an immature young man, and often just for casual sex. I also consider it sort of a compliment, since "cougar" implies attractive (though older).

23-year old girl dating a 20-year old boy seems like a huge stretch though. Maybe it was written by a 12-year old boy who thought a 3-year gap is huge.

I think it's more about age difference, a woman dating a guy 1/2 her age or so qualifies. so a 30 with a 18 year old sure a 40 with someone under 25, 50 under 30 etc. Rather then an actual age of being a cougar.

These discussions always funny to me, because many will believe that no one actually knows what age a cougar actually is much like people don't know the definition of what thick is, that being what applies to women. Cougars are 35 and up. There's also a formula for that but before I get into that and I know someone is going to dispute it there's also a difference between a cougar and a sugar mama.
