Are women just as horny as men?

Question

I have no real opinion on the matter and have heard many points for and against. From people saying that women aren't designed to be as sexual as men or that women are more into romance, while others I've heard say, women always think about sex they just don't talk about it much, some men say they were also surprised how sexually active their girlfriend was as well etc etc.

I know there are lots of things to consider in this, like personality, how society portrays women and 'moulds' them or evolution etc. But it seems that most people generally agree that most men for example are quite sexual and have high sex drives (even if that is stereotypical, which it is), so I'd prefer an overarching answer, with exceptions on the side of the answer.
Prove your answer with an example if you can (doesn't have to be about yourself if it's too personal) if in your opinion women are as horny as men as well, how do you show it? What do you or other women think about when turned on? If men supposedly think about sex every 3 seconds, how often on average is it supposed to be for women?

Women can be as sexual and horny as men.
The difference i think is Men desires a lots of women ( in other words many /lots of women turn them on).. this maybe due to evolutionary/biological reasons to spread the seed, reproduce more.. so men's horniness is in a broad spectrum while women's horniness is more channeled to a particular kind, type or event.
but both can have great sex drives.. some women higher than some guys even.

that's an interesting way to put it. So like, while us guys think of many women as hot and would feel horny for a lot of them, women only get this horny if you're the one they like and channel that 'horniness' into just you?

a man sleeps with a lot of women it s okay
the opposite its not okay or at least labelled as being a slut
it not fair but thats is life

agreed, sucks how it has to be this way :( I don't know about the history of sexuality so much, but I'm pretty sure slut shaming is just a recent 'trend' atm, hopefully it'll quickly disappear in the near future

Well as we cannot experience each other's gender I guess we have to listen to scientists who do seem to be of the definite opinion that men have higher sex drives on average than women. From experience from things I have heard women have much more variety than men. So, practically all men have high sex drives, whereas some women do, some don't and some are in between.

No, not at all. Women can weeks without the thought of masturbating or having sex. Some men "have" to do it daily.

Having to do masturbation has nothing to do with horniness for men. The body needs a release to keep the male organs in optimal function, this requires maintenence in the form of masturbation. Women dont need this but they can be as horny regardless of masturbation habits.

Women do get as horny as men, but not as frequently and not nearly as easily as men.
They require more stimulation and when they get their "fix" they have got enough for a while.
Obviously everyone is different, but have you ever heard of a guy who didn't masturbate for weeks or months even because they just didn't want to?
