That's ridiculous. First of all tampons are really small in comparison to the average penis. Upon losing your virginity, you'll likely have tight vaginal muscles (possibly from tensing up) and some discomfort that will make your virginity obvious. It's also possible that your hymen isn't completely teared.
Virginity should be viewed separately from the state of your hymen. You're right- the hymen can easily be teared in childhood by riding a bike, doing gymnastics, etc.
I do think your mom is being unreasonable and that your virginity / sex life is none of her business.

Tampons don't break hymens, and sex doesn't even "break" the hymen. The hymen has a hole in it, it's not something that pops or breaks, just stretches when you have sex. Some girls aren't even born with one, so really, the idea of virginity and breaking the hymen and all that is just outdated bullshit.

@awanti95 Actually, it only teas and bleeds during first sex if the woman is not relaxed, aroused and lubricated enough. Most of the time when women bleed during first sex is because of abrasions to the walls of the vagina, because of inadequate lubrication.

I will. I definitely did something to my hymen with the tampon. Of course when I did it, I wasn't as knowledgeable as I am now, so I had never seen the hymen before or anything. But, I remember having an extremely hard time putting it in, I even gave up a few times. It was as if I didn't have a hole at all. Ever since I put in that first tampon, the subsequent tampons have all been relatively easy to put in, and I can pretty easily insert a finger even without being horny and wet.
That is unlikely to have had anything to do with the hymen, and more to do with temporary vaginismus.
Just tell your hypothetical guy the truth that your hymen got broken by a tampon.
