in my society he is going to pay many dollars if she Co parents or takes full custody, adoption is the only option he may have if he lives where I do. we know of a guy who had his wife leave him and he never got his time with the kids because he had to pay more than he made, they pulled his license which hurt his earnings more and then he had no access to his kids at all. eventually she neglected the kids and he got me control over them and lower payments but it almost cost him his half of the business

@Daltron Oh whoops, I thought you were the Asker. You're talking about divorce which = splitting all assets + Alimony + child support (which is extremely expensive). The Asker isn't married to her (or even in a relationship with her), he only has to pay child support, which may be pricey but raising a baby isn't cheap and he did have the choice beforehand to pay a few bucks for condoms. It's a scary situation but that "woe is me" mentality isn't going to help him make the most of his options. Having a baby doesn't have to be the end of his life.

Not all of those cases are mishandled though. When my parents got divorced my mom tried to put me in foster care, even while my dad was asking for custody. The judge called her out on it, though. I know some court systems are just lazy or really biased against men but again, there are steps/appeals he can take to make sure the legal system is doing it's due diligence, depending on how your system is set up.

for the judges that handle cases correctly I applaud them, we need more of them. rights and options are good things to know, they can save him many years of unpleasant experience.
