Are intelligence and sex drive correlated?

In my personal experience, I've noticed that more intelligent people have higher sex drives (not necessarily sex frequency) than normal. People with lower sex drives tend to rely on emotions and look at sex from a more sacred/emotional perspective, whatever it might be. People with higher sex drives tend to be more open-minded and original. I may be wrong and I also know a few people who aren't very sexual and are intelligent... however, I'm really curious about a possible correlation.

Because it's improper to talk about sex openly in public, it can be difficult to perceive one's sex drive. It's reasonable to see why someone would hide a high sex drive lmao. But when you're friends with someone, it's easier to see a connection. One thing I notice---the people who aren't afraid to talk about sex tend to be more creative, intelligent, and have authentic personalities. I have a friend who is like this and she's got an amazing mind. I know someone else who is more sexually inhibited, and she rarely thinks outside the box and follows only the rules.

I really wonder if there are any studies to prove a correlation. Lol I'm pretty sure there isn't a concise answer to this because sex is a complex topic to study psychologically... but I'm curious.

  • Could be. It's the same with the people around me growing up, even though they might end up with 5 kids, they are not sex driven nor educated about sex.
    It for them was a task, over rated and something they do when bored or just want to prove to someone that they have a relationship.
    In my ghetto, people had no connection with their lover evidently and were just careless, so they had many kids, from multiple partners.
    I am not the brightest but I am more educated then my peers, more exposed and I've always had a high sex drive which I hid for years because I saw that I was different, I was having a lot of sex but was never pregnant due to my taking precautions.

    Men who weren't very educated always seemed to have never met a girl like me, I would be the one to turn them into men with awaken sexual abilities. If I met a smart, attractive guys he would just fall right in place with me.

    I think the more knowledge we have, the better every aspect of our lives will be, not just sex.
    One thing that can kill sex drive is poor sexual health or poor over all health, many people just aren't in the mood because their tools needs to be checked.
    Shying away and being ashamed won't fix things.

    • @harryish None of the people I grew up around who lacked education, character or charisma liked sex. It was a task for them because they lacked some form of intelligence and personality she mentioned about. How do you view my response as so stupid but you still followed?

  • Studies have actually shown that people with higher intelligence have higher sex drives yet have sex LESS and people with lower intelligence are more prone to multiple pregnancies and are popping out babies one after another.
    I wouldn't agree that people with lower IQs look at it from a more "sacred/emotional" perspective. I think it's more of a primal urge for them and doing whatever feels good. So it might be an emotional impulse but not in the sense of them searching for an emotional connection and "oneness" through sex. Just my guess though.

  • I've read more than one article that said it was true. I know one anecdote isn't the same as data, but I'm a smart guy and damn near insatiable.

    I have a job in which smart people abound. The few of us who aren't socially awkward talk about it and we're all the same way. There is a high tolerance for diversity: the 10 of us speak 19 languages, come from every part of the world, and range in age from mid 20s to nearly 65. Acceptance of other people's weird shit (sexual or not) without being judgmental is also the norm, and I find smart people are intellectually curious about things, even if they would never do them themselves.

    Lovehoney, a U. K.-based sex toy company, did some research (it's not exactly rigorously scientific… it looks more like marketing research) and found smart people do have higher sex drives but also have less sex than the general population.   • what determines a high sex drive. This is very anecdotal and I'm sure different studies would have indicators for levels of sex drive. Plus it is hard to create a controlled environment to test the theory even with a tight control group, all this excluding environmental factors, religion, background, status, social class etc

    • huge isn't a very quantifiable term. Intelligence alone is hard to quantify. if by intelligence you mean IQ scores many studies and peer reviewed journals show that with improved education you can increased the IQ of people. By this logic becoming more intelligent should make you want more sex, which sounds iffy.

  • no, I dont think so. The great thing about individuality is that people are diverse. People have high sex drives for different reasons, and others dont for other reasons. It really has nothing to do with exclusively having an open mind. Maybe a person would rather read a book then have sex, or vice versa? we have different interests and different reasoning for things but I dont think we have a right to assume someone is more intelligent for simply having high sex drives.

  • Since sex takes place in the brain, intelligent people may enjoy it more, also creative people have more imagination and sex can be artistic therefore artists have the winning hand in my opinion :)
