In wrestling, what do girls think if their male opponent gets an erection while wrestling and is there any I as a guy can avoid getting them?

I only started wrestling this last year, and I was really nervous about a lot of problems, including getting erections while wrestling. I did ask about it eventually and everyone said it wasn't a big deal. But we were talking about between guys. I didn't expect to have to wrestle girls this year but I did, and each time I had this problem. It was completely humiliating and I felt like everyone could easily see. I made me feel like I had to avoid getting into certain positions, which made it harder for me to win. One time I was pinned by a girl so that she and everyone else could surely see and I was so humiliated that I wanted to quit wrestling for good.

I still haven't talked to anyone about it because it's too humiliating. But I realized I was thinking so much about what other people think, especially the girls, but I don't know what they think because I can't ask. So I wanted to ask here because I can be anonymous and because I think people will be more honest with me.

So so what do people think if they see a boy wrestling a girl while he has an erection? And if any girls reading this have wrestled, did it bother you if a guy had one? I feel terrible when I'm behind them because it feels like I'm some kind of sexual abuser. But I feel humiliated when it's the other way around. Like a guy isn't supposed to be aroused when a girl is pinning him.

I know this all probably sounds really stupid and insecure but it really bothers me and I don't know if I can continue wrestling. This isn't the only problem I'm having but it's the only one I'm afraid to talk about.

  • I never wrestled scholastically, but I can still empathize. I had wrestled with girls (or at least one) just for fun when I was a teen. And I distinctly remember a girl wrestling with me while I had an unwanted erection. And she definitely felt it. And she kept going. She continued to wrestle that day and many times after that because she simply didn't care. She never made a big deal out of it, so I didn't either. And this was someone who didn't even wrestle for sport. So a girl who DOES wrestle on a team will definitely not care.

Here's a few things to consider:

First, I doubt you're unique in this situation. A lot of guys your age (I'm guessing 15-17?) probably experience the same thing. Like you, they're too embarrassed to talk about it. This might sound weird, but you might try to observe if anyone else on your team has the same issue if you get the opportunity to watch them wrestling a female opponent. If they do have the same issue, you might try to have a discussion with about it by breaking the ice with humor. Don't mention that you noticed their problem. Instead, joke about your issue. Make light of it like it's not a big deal and is funny. More likely than not, your peer will be relieved to learn he's not alone and will be eager to join in on your joking, as it makes him problem seem trivial.

Second, don't worry about the girls you are wrestling. If they wrestled coed, they are plenty used to it. I highly doubt they give it a second thought. Especially regarding your concern about being pinned. If she's good enough to pin you, she's experienced and cares about winning, not stuff like normal male bodily functions. Now you expressed concern because you felt bad when in something like a mounting position, and you will be pressed against your opponent in a way that feels... compromising. But again, your opponent cares more about winning. Don't handicap yourself by worrying about something you have no control over. That's not your problem, and it won't be their problem unless they choose to make it one. Basically: your erection is not going to make them try less hard, so you shouldn't try less hard either.

Finally, as for the crowd, you should never care what a crowd thinks. Either they watch enough matches to know your issue is a common one, or they don't know enough to be judging.

    • I remember to have basic wrestling class at high school.. we didn't need to wear the lycra.. but definitely every guys had an erection!! My friends and I laughed a lot during the class. We tried to guess how long does it takes to get them erected. Hahah it wasn't long at all

  • No there really isn't. I got one just about every time I wrestled a girl. Not trying to use it as an excuse but I got pinned by 3 girls. I would have had a winning record my senior year if I didn't have to face girls so it's not like I suck it's just hard to wrestle them

    • Guys suck at wrestling 😝

    • I'll bet you are awesome lol yeah right

  • It's not something I really think about anymore. It bothered me a little when I first started wrestling. I didn't actually like going out their wearing that singlet that leaves just a little too little to the imagination. But I think that also made me sympathize with the guys who got erections. They must been really embarrassed knowing that everyone can see it.

I'll admit it was pretty awkward the first few times I had to deal with it. Yes, it could be disconcerting to feel an opponent's thing on you, which does happen. It was also awkward for me when I was in control and had to touch with some part of my body. So don't think the guys are the only ones who feel awkward and wrong about it. We don't always blame you and sometimes we feel pretty embarrassed ourselves! And I'll admit, there was a kind of sadistic part of me I guess that actually did get a kick out of a guy getting an erection when I pinned him. As a girl, you don't often get to feel like you can physically dominant over boys, so having the power to not only pin them, but make their bodies do humiliating things beyond their control did feel pretty empowering in some way I guess.

But I don't think about ANY of that anymore. And I bet you won't think of it much either if you keep on wrestling. It's like what that other person said: the serious wrestlers are professionals. We don't care about normal things like that. And I'll let you in on a little secret: girls probably would experience some of the same problems if we had the same equipment.

So we don't judge guys at all for that. It's not like it's your fault, and it doesn't even bother us anyway once we're used to it.

    • It's really a situation where guys and girls shouldn't wrestle each other. You aren't in your right frame of mind when you are wrestling against a girl. Then an erection makes it even worse and all the advantages go to the girl

    • So I’m a guy who’s done wrestling before and honest question. Do you girls aim for the balls on purpose because I hardly ever have them grabbed against guys but every time I go against a girl I get them kicked or grabbed and I’ve even lost a few times because of it. I feel like girls do it on purpose even if its illegal because it’s an easy target in our singlets and you can see it all.. do you do that on purpose? Because if so maybe I should start wearing a cup against girls..

    • You're right.. we doesn't care really. I think girls have less problems about it than boys. I never been scared to touch my opponents dick (accidently) during a fight. And everytime i got a chance to lock their arms, sometime over my chest, every boy got uncomfortable about having an hand over or close to my boobs..

  • I never wrestled, but it sounds like a natural reaction from your bodies being so closely pressed together.

    • You're probably right, but do you think everyone will think that way? I'm worried that other people will still judge me for it.

  • It’s not stupid but I’m sure girls are completely prepared for it and don’t hold it against anyone at all

  • I would stay with wrestling, it is an awesome sport. nothing wrong with a guy getting hard in a wrestling match. A lot of close contacts and that part gets pressed on a lot so that alone can be enough to trigger an erection. try wearing tight pair of speedos under your wrestling singlet that will hold it in tighter so it won't be nearly so noticeable when you are hard. It will definitely keep it from tenting out. I dealt with it a lot as I went without orgasm before my wrestling matches so I would be more aggressive in wrestling, thus it was a hair-trigger for me any pressure on it and I got hard. I used the speedo under and it worked well for me to keep it from being so noticeable. wrestling is a great sport and you make a lot of friends at it.

  • You're getting turned on because you're having physical contact with a chick - the only think that says that this is embarrassing or humiliating is your reaction to it - Act like it's normal and it'll be normal for everyone - the world is what You think it is..

  • why aren't you wearing a cup?

    • We wear compression shorts.

    • wear a cup! lol

    • I could, but then I'd be the only guy on my team wearing one. I don't want to draw attention like that because people might ask why.

  • next time rub yourself on her. that's what i did keep in mind she was cheating anyways and i needed my penis to go down.

  • Where are all of these girl wrestlers coming from?

  • You know, when you’re grabbed everywhere all the time, you don’t tend to notice things like that. It happens quite a bit; it’s a very physical activity. And unless you start moaning and jerking off, it’s completely fine.

  • Use it to your advantage. Stick that boner right in her face and throw your opponent of guard. Then, go for the leg tackle

  • I'm sorry dog everyone's gonna say your gay I'm a senior in highschool and I'm just sayin shit like that don't go away

  • It’s happens a lot to boys I’ve wrestled so maybe it helps to know you’re not alone. Just try to focus on winning the match. If you’re thinking about what’s going on “down there” you’ll be distracted and be more likely to lose.

    • You got that right

  • You can control it sometimes, but it's natural for the guys, I know because I wrestled a lot of them, and I won every match.

    • Wow nice, did you win by submission or do you have a favourite hold?

    • @Funerestle Yes, and usually pin them like this ;)
