  • Almost *everyone* has been exposed so the virus that causes cold sores. Some people are more prone to get them (when they're on the mend from being ill, or because of stress, etc.) and some people carry the highly contagious virus, but seldom if ever get a cold sore. While they are relatively harmless, aside from being painful and a bit icky, when one appears. Still there are medications (like valtrex) that can prevent one from fully forming if taken at the first sign/feeling of getting a cold sore, or will aid in healing within a day or so if caught when the affected area is inflamed. I get cold sores on occasion, but I keep a prescription of valtrex handy, and take it at the first hint of feeling one coming on. Often this can prevent it from progressing any farther, or has it healed up in a day or so if the area becomes inflamed. They happen once in a long while, and usually appear when I've been rather sick and I start to feel better. So no, someone who gets and occasional cold sore is not a deal-breaker at all, as I know exactly what it is and what they are experiencing.
Chances are, if you've even been in the same building as someone who has had a cold sore, you've picked up the virus, whether or not you've ever shown symptoms or not. Just use common sense and don't kiss anyone, or otherwise have oral contact with other people if you get a cold sore.

  • 62% of people have Herpes Simplex now. By your 60's 85% will have it.
A study at the U of Louisiana says 98% of us have it.

You would be pretty lonely if you choose to avoid those of us with it. Herpes Simplex is not necessarily an STD for those of you that don't know that. You do pick it up from a carrier but it probably is not from having sex with an infected person.

If you have a healthy immune system, you will have none to infrequent outbreaks from it.

    • I get cold sores doesn't mean I'll pass anything. When I flare up I don't kiss anyone or give oral sex. It only lasts a week.

  • Almost everyone has some type of the herpes virus in them. You probably already have it, just because you don't have frequent outbreaks doesn't mean you don't have it. It's a skin disorder, it isn't that big of a deal. Would you stop seeing someone because they got the flu frequently? If not then refusing to date someone who get's frequent cold sores is ridiculous. Chances are you already have it and if you don't you may not ever express symptoms if your worried about it avoid kissing them while they have an outbreak.

  • I've gotten ulcers inside my cheeks from stress before. It's only happened a handful of times, though. I know that several different things can cause sores in the mouth, from fevers, to stress, to people biting their lips, to viral infections, etc.. and they aren't always visible but I wouldn't go out of my way to bring my face near anybody with sores on it. That would be reckless and unhealthy. You could try getting to know guys first. I don't know how visible or common your outbreaks are.

  • I haven't met many people who don't get cold sores every now and again. I've been getting them since I was a child, especially in the winter I would get them. I believe its common. I haven't had one since I'm 16 but that doesn't mean I'll never get one again.

  • Most has the cold sore virus in them.. but most of them are usually around the lips-thanks to sharing sweets and bottles of pop as kids

Cold sores if active on the face can potentially become an std to someone else.. but since most have the heroes virus in their systems know better than to have oral sex when they have a cold sore pop up
those little sores in the side of the mouth u get when u get flu or majorly run down- that's cold sores! Avoid oral sex..

    yeah I would date someone

  • Yes, why not? he is still Hot, or I would Not... Be Dating nor Mating Him Here, dear. xx

  • It'd definitely keep me from kissing the guy.

  • Pretty much everyone gets cold sores. It's not even an std if that's where you're going with it.

  • Almost everyone gets cold sores.

  • Pref no, but if you don't have them by my age, you normally have immunity but it's really not something I want

  • I wouldn't.

  • Nope

  • Yes i would date a girl with cold sores. Not a deal breaker for me. XD

  • Wtf no, never. A cold sore is fucking herpes, oral herpes to be exact. On the other hand, a canker sore is not, and is not contagious and goes away on its own. FYI everyone may get canker sores. But no not everyone or gets cold sores you idiots (people who said that in the comments). I'll put up with a canker sore but not a cold sore.

  • Hell nope if i can see it right through.

  • Nope

  • Statistically, according to the CDC 50 to 80 percent of adults in the United States have oral herpes. There is no cure but there is medication that helps with break outs. I already have trouble getting a relationship and to cut out a significant portion of people out due to something that is rather minor (compared to genital herpes, aids, or any other powerful std) would hurt my chances more.

  • Nearly everyone has contracted a form of herpes virus, so it would be pretty unreasonable not to.

  • Dude, EVERYONE gets them. I always get them from kissing girls.

  • I don't know what cold sores are, but I saw nothing in that picture that I don't like

  • I get cold sores too so yeah.

  • Shure. Thats like asking if i would date someone that gets a cold, or has alergies.

  • Depends.. I may be able to fix that...
