I just encountered that recently, what was sad was she said they were cat scratches and I knew they were not. People are complicated and complex and the only concern is she is reluctant to be open and honest about it, which makes me feel there may be a red flag... and it has nothing to do with her scars

It wouldn't be destraction as far as physical appearance making you appear ugly but would destract because I would be concerned about you. I would want to make sure you are happy and coping well and want to know what triggers your reactions so I don't ever cause you to react and have issues.
