because it feels so good I forget to hold them open :P

And because it allows me to completely focus on what I'm feeling; seeing things is distracting. similar to sensory deprivation: if you shut off one or more senses, the others become enhanced.
Try sex with a blindfold and earplugs and be amazed ;)
