Why does my boyfriend try to hide his face during sex?

I've noticed many times that when my boyfriend and I are having sex he hides his face, especially if he's behind me. Many times I've looked back at him and I catch him in time he either has his mouth open or his eye turning up in his head but he quickly stops. I know I've got that good good but why is he hiding his sex faces. Its weird because the minute I'm on top he looks me straight in my face, studying every expression. He says he loves the faces I make but I also love the faces he makes.
