  • The data on this one are not in doubt. it is men overwhelmingly. There is a saying: "For a woman, there is no sex until there is love. For a man, it is not love until there is sex."

The truth is, this is rooted in evolutionary biology. Men are programmed to impregnate as many females as they can. It is how the species has survived for several hundred thousand years. By contrast, normally in nature, a woman can only carry one child at a time and it takes most of her energy to care for it once it was born.

So, a man is looking to spread his sperm to as many eligible females as he can. His evolutionary instinct limiting that to females who seem able to bear offspring. A female, on the other hand, needs only one male, and evolution programs her to look for a male that seems healthy - and will have presumably healthy sperm - and who will be able to ward off rival males and predators.

In this, evolutionary biology plays a trick to this day. When a male is unattached, his testosterone levels are elevated. This makes him sexually aggressive and antagonistic to other males.

When he impregnates a female, her physiology changes and she begins to emit hormones and pheromones that his body (he is not consciously aware of this) detects. This depresses his testosterone levels and makes him more protective and - when the baby is born - nurturing.

(A man hopped up on testosterone would wander off to find other females to mate with, and might even be a threat to his own offspring. By the way, this is why men tend to get sleepy after sex. It was nature's way of keeping the man around long enough to allow the woman's body to change in reaction to being impregnated.)

This was true of our prehistoric ancestors, but it is still true of modern humans. The difference in modern humans, of course, is that we have socialization and a culture that - generally - reinforces monogamy. It contravenes our natural instinct, but is far better for the woman, children and social stability in general.

Indeed, as societal rules regarding sex have loosened, we have tended to see a rise in rapes, child abuse, sexual harassment and other bad things.

Long way around, though - sorry, I do go on - the basics of human evolution are pretty clear. Men seek out sex far more aggressively than women do. These are tendencies and there will always be individual exceptions - but in the general trends are clear.

    • Men are natural rapists to summarize.

    • @azzntittiz If it makes you feel better. Of course, the problem with that argument is that man is more than his evolutionary nature. We are the only creatures on the planet who transcend their nature. (Raise a baby wolf to be the best wolf he can be - he will still be a wolf. Raise a baby to be the best human it can be, and it may write sonnets or cure cancer.) We are more than the sum of our evolutionary parts. Besides, here is a fun twist. When a man cheats, it is most likely because he does not feel loved or respected by his s/o. When a woman cheats, it is more likely because she found a man more interesting or appealing. Women, it turns out, cheat for more selfish reasons then do men. There are no angels in this story.

  • male have higher levels of testosterone and no menstrual circle that forces their drive to fluctuate. therefore on average men have a higher drive. that's an objective fact.

    • Plenty of people will deny it though

    • plenty of people use individual experiences and exemplary evidence to try and argue against the "average", which is just dumb :D

  • Men produce more testosterone than females, which is linked to libido, but females bodies are more sensitive to testosterone. It depends on the person, not the gender

  • pft. most guys are open to sleeping around... but they aren't the ones asking for multiple rounds.

    • Refractory Period

    • lol sh, it still counts. They get tired while our sex drive is still beating its drum lolol

  • On average true. But women and men both go through primes often at different times.

  • False. Both men and women fall all across the spectrum equally. Men just talk about it more. When women are out with the girls we are just as bad as any male out there. We just don't vocalize it, unless we are with people we trust.

  • yup, raging testosterone.

    • raging estrogen and progesterone

    • @WhistleThuslyTWEETs I'm not denying chicks have that too.

  • Bisex

  • Probably true, but there are of course exceptions to every rule.

  • True because testosterone. Also men express their drives more than women who may have high sex drives

  • Due to higher levels of testosterone

  • It depends on the person

  • Very true.

  • Girls have a higher sex drive in my point of view because of how girls come across to me.

  • Any man who thinks a man's sex drive is high should read this.

If a woman is in mood and she is wet, there is hardly man on earth that can completely satisfy a woman.

    • Not sure what that link is supposed to mean. Are you saying women have higher sex drives because of one crazy nymphomaniac woman?

  • Very true on average , also depends on age group too. Mine is FAR lower now than it was in say , late teens / 20's... as a single dad... thankfully !
