It depends on what is behind it. A Friends With Benefits arrangement can be a construct between partners who either do not want or cannot sustain a future-looking dating relationship. It is not casual sex or a booty call. It is a warm, relaxed intimate relationship and it is not without feelings. There will be fondness. It is dishonest to be in a "FWB" and have multiple relationships. Ditto with the intent of backing into an "official" relationship. Mine lasted a year and ended amicably when our career paths diverged. We agreed on zero contact once we parted.
I'm friends with benefits relationship latest for almost four years. Though to be honest it started when I was eleven, I live in Jamaica the age of Consent is sixteen so they are guys who started off younger than me. I think distance plays quite an important role in extending and maintaining these types of relationships. Mines would've probably lasted even longer if it weren't for her parents divorce, she decided to live with her mom.

Oh we caught feelings alright that can't be avoided forever. It got to the point where she began cheating on her boyfriend and then I started catching feelings when she told she was gonna move. That whole experience feels fucked up now.
Don't hang/chill, have long conversations with, cuddle with your friends with benefits it hurts not realizing you really love someone until they're gone.
They usually fall apart when one person develops feelings while the other seeks to maintain what it is, casual, no strings attached sex.

If you both keep being honest and communicating with each other, it can go on for as long as you both want it to. Mine went for 8 mths until I caught feelings for her. She didn't feel the same, and she ended it quickly once I expressed them, but she didn't even hear me out on it either. There needs to be some basic respect there between you both as well. I don't feel mine had any at all for me. And her communication skills sucked!

Don't catch feelings for this boy (reading between the lines it seems you like him a lot/potentially want more), friends with benefits are simply that, you use each other until one partner finds someone more permanent.. A man is very unlikely to get into a relationship with his friends with benefits, after all he's giving him all the good stuff for free, so why would he?
