I think adversity of a traumatic nature breeds a sense of humor for some depending on their personality. For others they get nothing but broken hearts and needle marks. That’s the positive side. It gave me a great sense of humor. The dark side is, I’m extra myself, and can be a real prick sometimes, and the nightmares and all the shit associated with PTSD, and of course a temper that scares even me at times. But hey, it is what it is, and I don’t engage in self pity, only dark, sarcastic and dry humor. Like to me Very Bad Things was hysterical, but lots of people can’t get that humor with out going through fucked up shit. That fucked up shit results in figuring out how to handle it. That figuring ranges from sane and healthy ideas to catastrophically bad ideas. Those bad ideas are what enables you to laugh at a Christian Slater on a self improvement tear to suggest cutting up a hookers body after an accidental death and result in him trying to off everyone else involved.

That’s because going through fucked up shit made you think of solving problems in a similar way probably, which you quickly dismissed acting on, but did think about it for a hot minuet. Well unless you been there, chances are you can find that type of shit hysterical and see the irony in it and you damn sure can’t crack jokes and write material like that until you legit had those thoughts and laughed at the insanity of them.

You know the funny thing is, I truly believe the older you get that filter that you have that says “don’t say that shit” gets wore down and removed... eventually it’s replaced with a filter that says “fuck it, say it and see what happens.” My filter has been replaced. Now I say shit and people either laugh hysterically or stare at me with a “what da fuck is wrong wit chu” stare. It’s nothing but excitement for me. Like a big roulette wheel. What’s it gonna be: “rolling in the flor laughing, or am I going to get punched or fired” Never just know, the possibilities excite me.

That’s why the Chapelle Show was the funniest TV show ever. PC was 100% out the window. Plus brilliant writing and delivery. A skit about a blind black white supremicist? That’s fucking hysterical. Chappelle putting on a wig and makeup and talking like a white guy... hysterical cause he fuckin nailed it. White peoples are 2 ways. Just as he portrayed them or missing teeth and waving rebel flags. I’m white so I know. That’s what made it so funny. To see a guy of another race doing a perfect and hilarious impersonation of your average white middle to upper class male. And he fucking nailed it. If there was no truth to it... it wouldn’t have been funny.
