Are you circumcised & do you masturbate?

Contrary to popular belief, circumcision did not become popular in the west because of religion (the New Testament strongly condemns circumcision) or hygiene, but to curb masturbation. Circumcision was also originally practiced on females, for the same reason.

I'm curious about whether there's really any correlation (not that a correlation would justify the practice).

  • Uncircumcised and I will masturbate sometimes as often as several times a day. It really depends on how often I have sex with my girlfriend.

    We live together - and have for ten years and have three children. I am told - I really have nothing to compare it to - that I have a high sex drive and am sexually very aggressive.

    However, that is not usually an issue as we usually have sex quite often. As much as five times in a week. Still, if we get busy or one of us is traveling then masturbation can be a huge relief. I also will masturbate in front of my girlfriend as a turn-on - as she will sometimes in front of me.

    All of this, though, is irrelevant to whether a guy is cut or uncut. A man's sex drive is related to all sorts of psychological and biological factors - ranging from how he was raised to his sperm count.

    The myth about circumcision was a conflation of cause and effect. A boy raised in a religious household with all the taboos related to masturbation. He was also apt to be circumcised.

    That the boy was circumcised then was an outgrowth of being born into a family that likely viewed masturbation to be immoral. The boy would, being raised in such a family, would likely masturbate less, with that reduced level of masturbation being wrongly attributed to circumcision rather than to the culture in which he was raised.

    A circumcised boy raised in a family where masturbation was not frowned upon would then, all other things being equal, masturbate as frequently as an uncircumcised boy raised in a family where masturbation was not frowned upon. Conversely, an uncut boy and a cut boy raised in a family that frowned upon masturbation would likely masturbate with the same frequency.

    Sorry for all that. My dad was a doctor who saw no medical reason for circumcision nor did our religion require it. So my brothers and I, although born at a time when it was common practice, were not cut. Suffice to say, I learned all of the above over time.

  • I am circumcised, masturbate, & Christian. Sure some people will be like how can you call yourself a Christian & masturbate? But that is beside the point. I have looked at the subject of circumcision in the New Testament many times & nowhere does it condemn circumcision, in fact in the book of Roman's it actually indicates that it is beneficial, but what Paul is trying to tell Peter is that it's not an issue of salvation. Paul was also saying that you don't have to be Jewish before you become Christian which is what Peter was trying to do.

    • maybe not condemned, but STRONGLY discouraged, because Gal 5:3 says that men who get circumcised are obligated to keep the whole law of the Old Testament, & I think most people don't want to do that. Gal 5:2 "Take notice: I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all. 3Again I testify to every man who gets himself circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole Law."

    • I actually agree with that. Now I'm not perfect, but I do agree with that, including the issue regarding the Sabbath. Anyway at least you are thinking about it, & it was a interesting question. Hope my earlier comment wasn't offensive the way I worded it.

    • Most American men are circumcised despite most Americans being Christian, so yes.
      In Judaism, circumcision among males is indeed seen as part of the covenant with God, but some Jewish people actually interpret it as being necessary for the same reason as above (reducing lust so they can focus on God - which is why circumcision is exclusive to men, because it's believed that women don't have that issue):

  • Your source is very biased. The dr's quoted I don't think were listened to and weren't the reason for circumcision. In America circumcision didn't go mainstream until post ww2. It was done for good hygeine and a few health benefits. Masturbation was not the concerning factor. The American Pediatrics Society still says benefits outweigh risks

  • I got circumcised as an adult.

    No impact on masturbation frequency, once it was healed.

    It took me a little while to get the technique down without using lube. I suppose that's also true when uncut though, lol, not sure which is 'easier' to figure out.
