Should prostitution be legal?

The Patriots owner, Robert Kraft, was caught trying to solicit prostitutes.
It says that the women there are held against their will, which I'm not in favor of.

I think prostitution should be legal because then it creates a black market and it makes it dangerous for the sex workers. Plus, it's odd that having sex in front of a camera for money (aka porn) is legal, but having sex without a camera (aka prostitution) isn't?

What are your thoughts? Should prostitution be legalized?

It's actually just the opposite. Under current US prostitution prohibition, LE is mostly helpless to help prostitutes if their money is stolen or if they were beaten up, etc. Really, if they aren't underage or being trafficked, there's little that LE can do because prosecutors won't bring cases for prostitutes.

If you look at how prostitution is run in Nevada, LE can (and regularly does) do inspections, and there are records, etc. and very few problems. It also drains the demand for illegal prostitution in those counties. (Note: prostitution is only legal in rural counties in Nevada, so it isn't legal in Vegas or Reno/Tahoe or the counties they are in).

Prohibition, on the other hand, heavily encourages crime and further criminal enterprises. It brings criminals into the business as pimps, who then traffic women, get them on drugs, beat them, steal their money, etc. And then, they take the money they make on prostitution and fund other crimes.

Ask any vice officer which system would make more sense, and you'll virtually universally get "legalize and regulate it" as an answer, even though it would impact their own jobs.

I think it should be legal in certain regards.

Walking the streets & finding someone and taking them down an alley, that should stay illegal, but with several sensible regulations it would make much more sense to be legal.

E. g in a "brothel", more specifically a place with other people around, that should be required to have trained security personnel at all times. Regular tests on the workers. Have the workers registered.

Much safer for the workers, much easier for the government to tax. Much more work for the black market to be so worth while for those types of criminals. Much less money spent wasting time prosecuting illegal sex workers.

I don't see a side where it being illegal comes out on top.

  Yea, I'm not saying make back alley prostitution legal. But that's a side effect when something is illegal.

No, because now you're going to turn the whole country into whoredoms. If people want that so badly then don't expect healthy marriages and relationships and worry about rapes and molestation because that's where it all starts. People who wants to ruin their lives that's their business. But to get everybody on board with it and you might as well let your kids do it and not judge.   It's not about limiting access to women. That is not the goal. The goal is having women stop catering to men who will use and abuse them sexually because they want what's easy. A man can't cheat if the women or girl he is pursuing has boundaries and won't tolerate his BS. Too many women allow the cheating because 1: their sexually neglecting their men like the Bible speaks about, and 2: the men can't respect them because the women they have done the same thing. Men won't change if women don't change. I know because I had a good amount of guys after finding out that I was a virgin, never dated or messed with a guy respect me because I wasn't like other girls. They treated me with respect but have a hard time respecting other girls because of their sexual choices. A lot of men, in reality, do want to be committed to their partners. But they have a hard time finding somebody truly worth committing to other than for sex either. And you can't necessarily blame them.

  Yes, you can blame them. It doesn't matter if it's the world's "sluttiest" woman near him, if he can't control himself, that's his issue. Because you're never going to rid the world of "hoes". They've been around since forever. Making men pay for sex isn't a deterrent. Making it illegal isn't a deterrent. Hell, even penalizing men (like in many marriages that end in divorce with the man cheating and getting more money taken from him) isn't a deterrent. There are also many who cheat with women they don't pay sex for. You can't stop a person from cheating, they have to decide that's who they are for themselves. It's a very weak argument.

  Who says I'm a whore? You can support something without partaking in it. I don't use drugs, drink, nor smoke but I support their legalization. Because making things illegal, makes them more dangerous. And NO, I wouldn't support anything like murder or rape. Because that is violence towards someone.   Making a government bigger is making it more corrupt. I don't want them micromanaging our lives. So yes, I can complain about a corrupt government because I'm not the one trying to expand it's powers over our lives. Again. innocent people are hurt and killed BECAUSE it is illegal.   It directly affects me because one: 1. It comes out of my tax dollars that could be used to feed me and my family when I worked and will work. 2. The men I think I would be interested in or attracted to when I was younger has done any and everything that is destructive sexually and tries to make me another number. We are not talking about homosexuality, though its part of it, or cancer. We are talking about promoting free harlotry that will destroy marriage and sexual relationships altogether. They're spreading STDs, they get arrested, they're being hospitalized for abuse they face since it's illegal and their customers can pretty much do whatever they want. Or their pimps. Somebody who REFRAINS from things, places and people that will jeopardize their security in the areas that are important to them. 4. Somebody who practices what they preach. Committed is safeguarding your relationship with somebody or something. Committed is taking responsibility and accountability for every action and choice you make. Committed is listening, not just hearing. Committed are obedience and Respect. Committed is doing what needs to be done. Not what you want to be done when it doesn't align with what you need.

I don't think 18 year olds should be allowed to date and fuck 70 year olds, but I guess they're "adults". It is up to us, because we vote for the laws and politicians. I don't want to leave, I love the US constitution because of the freedoms it gives us. I don't have to agree with those freedoms, but I love that we have them. Prostitution isn't harming anyone if it's legal. Except the person's wallet, but that's their choice. They're free to do as they wish with their money. The majority of obese people are that way because of choices. Very few are that way for uncontrollable medical choices. The government isn't good at fixing most issues. I'm being ridiculous because you don't understand that being pro personal freedoms isn't the same as encouraging those behaviors. Just like freedom of speech - I may not agree with what you say, but I fully agree with your right to say it.   People have every right to enjoy and desire sex. But people also should have the freedom to protect their sexual interest. Like my father says which is the truth as a man: "How can women expect us not to do these things if they don't keep their legs close act like they don't want them there?"   The same way you say you don't support animal abuse is the same way prostitution is ABUSING SEX. Not just sexual abuse. Even when it's legal. It's up to you to pretend if it affects you or not. I think freely consenting adults should be able to use their body any way they want without shame, scrutiny or the risk of jail time.

  If you want legal prostitution, abortion better be free or provided for everyone,, because if you look at some other countries where its legal, you'll see it causes nothing but harm. Especially when tourists come and fuck women overseas and then just leave. Its a nasty business

* Prostitution is the among the OLDEST profession in this world.. most of the men want to "benefit" from it.. "willing" prostitutes indulge into it probably as a last resort to help them earn money and get out of a crisis.. and it also helps to curb rape to some extent (as men in "need" get a way out).
* High-end prostitution doesn't involve sex alone, sometimes people just call them for companionship as well.. talk to them and/or just hug them and sleep.
* Human trafficking is still happening, I don't know whether it'd get better or worse with legalisation, but I feel it should curb that too.
* I didn't knew the extent that it is spread in India, until I started searching for a paid sex for myself. I've called only 1 lady till date and talked to a couple over paid cam sex and my understanding was that mostly do it wilfully and were not dragged into this on a gun-point, so as to say. They indulge mostly to support their families and once they indulge and start earning, it's hard for themselves to leave it due to the money and/or the money involved.. they get habituated to it.
* Here in India, there's a new trend of Spa/ massage service, which is a cover for providing paid sex. At some places the masseuses are not even paid and may not even know how to massage and their source of earning is the extra money client has to pay for the extra service and they kind of push you to get those services.
* To my understanding, major issue involves to cheap prostitution houses as even the wilful prostitutes also dread to go even near that area with a fear of getting trapped.
* Yes, trafficking occurs in high end prostitution as well and I would personally not know the extent of it, but then all kind of business/ political organisations take the benefit of these services even to get their work done (as in providing sexual bribe)
* Security men and others who remain out from their hometown and away from their families, need to vent out their "built-up" at some point of time.
* Even females take service of male prostitutes and even then females are termed as defaulters and looked down upon.
* In crux, I'd say almost everyone has this sexual body need, some express it while others suppress it.. and when there's a demand there has to be a supply. Legalizing will help prostitutes do it with some rights and safety. I only wish though that no one is trafficked/ trapped into it and that it be done wilfully.

  But there can be 2 major issues with legalisation of prostitution: 1. Those involved in prostitution will find it difficult to get any other job due to lack of experience or of any skill development otherwise in another job (especially after an age when their demand will decrease) 2. People want variety very quickly and so even if there are sufficient prostitutes to fill in the demand, the might be a lack of variety leading to higher demand than actual and thereby competition and again, may be, human trafficking. However, this may be curbed by changing the location of the prostitute in rotation so that localised people keep getting variety without new ones being forced into it.

I think it should be legal, but as long as its run in a business like way, pay tax's, insurance etc, if you come down to the real thing isn't raising a family a bit like that,, you give me a bay and you and I can have sex and no one worries about it if we get married,

Legalizing prostitution does nothing besides taking away the means of law enforcement to crack down on it effectively.

As for porn, the issue isn't nearly as clear-cut as it would seem.
Porn and its production is de facto illegal in many countries.
For example making money off pornographic material is actually illegal in Australia.

I go back and forth on this one. On the surface, I'm inclined to say yes, seeing as how it is between two consenting adults. However, if it is to be legal, it should be heavily regulated. In places where it's legal but not regulated, the lives of the prostitutes are somewhere between bad and awful.

You make a very good point --- a girl can get paid for having sex on camera and it's legal, whereas it is illegal for a girl to have sex in private if she is getting paid for it !

  I agree that men should be able to engage in it without fear of imprisonment, public exposure, car impounding, etc. But making it legal encourages men to be addicted to it and consequently go broke or ruin their marriages. Just arrest the prostitutes, and hold them in prison for longer than they have been.

  According to Google its 50 euro for the price of twenty minutes of sex in Amsterdam. A copy of the video game, Far Cry: New Dawn which was released 8 days ago is about 45 euros in The Netherlands. So its really not that expensive

  Yes it's more dangerous for both prostitutes and customers when it's illegal. But I don't care about the danger to streetwalkers, because they are slime. Correct, going without a condom with prostitutes is dumb. That's a reason I oppose prostitution and advocate monogamy. And you're wrong. Whenever something is legalized, that encourages it.

  funnily enough a lot of guys on here are either raised in that type of environment where "Porn is bad" that they would even take their belief to teh next level and argue so much for that to be right... others are trying to impress women by feigning innocence so they would appear to be more appealing to the opposite sex, when in reality most women (or rather those I've known) enjoy porn and with the views some guys have of the matter they wouldn't be impressing anyone... chances are they are closet porn addicts lol

Here it is legal. They have a union that helps with a lot issues. Its safer for the worker, they have fair (er) wages, and now people can be beter educated about and there is less of a social stigma on it. I think these are benefits that make it worth it.
