I get the impression that many men feel that their masculinity is being reduced by not being able to release into the woman. There is also the idea that condoms are uncomfortable, which is true if they do not fit. But I think the discomfort is in the head more than the body. Men have been told that condoms a uncomfortable and reduce sensitivity, and so they believe that they experience those things.
I will admit that I prefer sex without a condom, too.
It is a bit of a mood-killer that I have to pull out right after ejaculation and fumble around with the condom before I can go back to cuddling or what comes next. But it is better than getting an unwanted child.

Just because it feels better without a condom is no excuse for his behavior! I'd go off on his ass, go take a plan B pill (as a precaution), and needless to say I wouldn't fool with him again. If he can't respect you by wearing a condom, I wouldn't trust him.
