Why do so many guys look at cheerleaders as sex objects? Does that take the appeal out of wanting to become a cheerleader for many girls?

Why are the words "SEX" and "CHEERLEADER" synonymous to most guys?

Don't tell me it isn't true, you can not say the word "Cheerleader" around a group of guys without having a provocative slur or joke made... you know I'm right guys!

Maybe many girls have no problem with it and know in advance that it is just part of the job, or even like it, but what about the athletic girls that just love it as a sport and do not want to be looked upon as a sex object for doing what they love?

A. Get your head out of the sand Laurie, it's not possible to avoid! When you wear a sexy uniform and throw your legs in the air, that is what happens

B. YES! It is just part of the territory when joining a cheerleading squad. In fact, many cheerleaders thrive off of the "sex object" status that it brings!

C. I disagree! It is ridiculous that guys look at cheerleaders as sex objects. It is no different than figure skating, gymnastics, ballet or many forms of dancing. Some guys just see any female not dressed in a burqa as sexually provocative

D. Yes, many girls that would be a great cheerleader refuse to do it because of the way guys would ogle over them, and talk about them, as sex objects

  • Allow me to connect the dots.

Guys of Middle School/Jr. High and High School age have just gone through puberty and are sex-crazed, and being young and immature, are mostly focused on the best-looking girls (even if they have no chance with them). And cheerleaders tend to be among the better-looking girls in school, and among the more popular, so they are widely desired. Most guys, of course, don't end up getting to bang a cheerleader in school, though.

But for many, the attraction that was unfulfilled in school never completely goes away, and so they continue to see cheerleaders as sex objects long after school is over. Many dream of what it would have been like to be more popular/confident/successful during those years and how it might have changed their life, and the idea of dating or banging a cheerleader is a symbol of that in their minds.

It's not a lot different from guys in their 40s, making good money, etc., buying the car they always wanted as a teen but had no chance of affording, and even if that car was crappy in comparison to newer cars 20+ years later, they still have to have that car they wanted as a teen. It's kind of a mental "do-over" to get something they couldn't have back then.

It's not always cheerleaders for every guy - maybe it's a blonde surfer girl-type, or an actress, or a dancer, or a goth/alt girl, or whatever, but cheerleaders are a very common type that are widely desired, so you encounter that desire a lot.

  • Skills in gymnastics is very attractive, but I never see them as sex objects. (Or any other girls.)

  • i was a varsity cheerleader and honestly being treated as a sex object was an unfortunate part of the experience. many people don’t realize the hard work put in by these women. how many people can memorize routines, stunt and throw other girls in the air, while perfecting their splits, tumbling etc? the truth is i get it’s part of the territory but honestly it’s not how it SHOULD be seen. I've always been a dancer and a cheerleader since before i knew what sex was and i’m not gonna drop doing it because of lustful people and i think other women should know that too— majority of us aren’t doing it for the attention but for the athleticism and the fun out of choreography etc.

    • Finally, someone who really knows what she is talking about! You hit the nail on the head, thank you!

    • Do you like that it most likely improved your sex life?

  • I think whether we like it or not we are going to be seen as sex objects specially when in an outfit and poses like those of cheerleaders... it is unfortunate but a bitter reality... i have known guys seeing and commenting on tennis stars i mean women tennis players
All i would say is that it's a lovely sport and whoever wants to be the cheerleader its a great thing to be and you should just ignore the ogling eyes and if you can't then think that you are pretty enough that they can't take their eyes off you

    • why do you make it sound like a disaster? women love turning eyes to themselves and that is the only reason those cheerleaders are there. i don't know how you look but if you want to know how much you enjoy men looking at you stop shaving and don't put on any make up and wear ugly clothes for a while then you'll see what a predicament the male gaze is. you women love it and you're going to miss it when you get old but you're all too arrogant to admit that you love getting attention from the opposite gender

    • @morrowlow hey hey calm down mister... i never said i don't like it... i was saying in general and i am sure you will agree as well You have to understand that even though every girl knows that guys will stare but not all of them can be ok with the weird staring... many girls just let it go when guys just look and move... the problem only comes when they start staring weirdly and that makes them uncomfortable And by the way not every girl likes wearing makeup, there are many who just go out without it and i know some who don't care enough about their dresses and still get gazed on... And maybe u didn't notice that i also said if one is not comfortable they should ignore assuming that they are too pretty for those guys With all that being said not all guys do this, many of them give space too. As far as i am concerned i dont mind honey i work in a nightclub and many strangers see me stare at me and touch me every night so i am perfectly fine with this

  • I’m sure it’s got a lot to do with the miniskirts and ribbons in their hair or whatever skimpy uniforms the squad wears. I loved being a cheerleader. I knew some guys viewed us as sex objects, but I loved cheering and just accepted the sex object factor as something that came with the territory of doing something I enjoyed.

    • Thanks girl 😊

What Girls & Guys Said

  • We don't have cheer leaders over here so my understanding comes mostly from pornhub but aren't they there just to provide sexual relief to the team.

    • Why do so many guys look at cheerleaders as sex objects? Does that take the appeal out of wanting to become a cheerleader for many girls?

    • Most teams get fuck’d by the refs. Pornhub has taught us a lot.

  • It’s a symbiotic relationship.

The men viewing the girls, and watching them perform while their body parts are flaunted.

The babes love the attention they get because it brings them validation. Both are happy.

    • Interesting theory!

  • The term "sex object" is just a crap way of saying involuntary biological reaction.

Men are visual creatures so when they see a fit woman in tight, revealing clothes dancing around provocatively it triggers a sexual response in them. They don't see it and consciously think "will you look at that... that woman is performing an interesting and athletic routine. Welp... screw that. Im going to imagine having sex with her instead."

That's not how it works. They see it and the biological, subconscious reaction is "she's ready to mate. Jump on that and continue the species". It's no different than women getting turned on while watching firemen do their thing.

  • Let's face it the uniforms Cheerleaders are required to wear are designed to be sexy and revealing. If you are a woman who doesn't want to be oggled and lusted after, Cheer-leading probably isn't the "sport" you should pursue.

  • Cheerleading is designed, from the ground up, to trigger an involuntary sexual response in the primary viewers of American football.

It has literally no other purpose in the world for existing.

  • I believe there was a long period of time when people thought "cheerleaders are airheads" and "airheads are easy." I wanted to join the cheer squad despite being a straight As student & a respectable member of the college community. I was definitely NOT an airhead & surely NOT easy. Unfortunately, I didn't make the cut to be a cheerleader because I didn't have enough graceful moves during tryouts.

  • I thought the whole point of cheerleading was to pump up the team and fans by raising their testosterone levels.

  • I was on a drill team years ago. It’s a lot of hard work & its demeaning I had to learn a lot of technical technics. But I did it & no easy task. In the end it taught Me a good work ethic. Yes I had to wear cute outfits.

  • This is moronic. Do you even know what a synonym is. Big and large are synonyms. No guy ever said I would like to cheerlead her all night long.

    • SYNONYM DEFINITION: A synonym is a word or phrase that means exactly or nearly the same Sorry you misunderstood that, I hope your day gets better Ms BK.

    • No problem. Love that you learned. What did you think of my joke at the end.

    • Had to look at it twice... I'm blonde... lol

  • It's probably because many of the uniforms are provocative

  • Because most of them dance sexually and have revealing clothing. This can’t be a serious question.

    • It is serious because most girls don't look at this type of thing the same way guys do.

    • If a girl can’t understand why a guy would be looking at her sexually when she’s half dressed and shaking her barely concealed booty, she doesn’t need to be doing it. Sex is part of our biology. Most of us have the primal desire to procreate. So when a possible mate is showing her good genes, yes, possible partners will gather around. Animals do it all of the time. Watch the nature channel some time. We’re not that different from them. We’re just a little smarter and have technology. But at the primal level we’re like most mammals.

    • Humans might actually be a little “too” smart. So smart that they forget that they’re a type of animal.

  • Gee I wounder… Women dressing up in skimpy clothes flashing their underwear 10 times a minute yelling Wooh! Give me an A, give me an S, give me an S, bend over and lift skirt what does that spell? Heh every one look at me!

    • ... lol

  • We don't have cheerleaders in England, not to the extent they have them in the US.

My best understanding of it is the fact that the girls are really pretty, have nice figures due to the exercise they get and they wear short revealing clothes.

But I think it is wrong to view them in that way. Because a lot of people tend to focus on their looks rather than their ability. I mean I think we should appreciate all the hardwork and stuff that goes into their routines.

  • the fact that you have to ask why cheerleading is associated with sex implies that it is. I feel cheerleading is all bout energizing the crowd, but it has evolved into looking sexy, attractive, hot, getting attention, thus reviewing cheerleaders as sexy objects. don’t believe it go to fundraiser event and watch how the girls act with the players/people.

  • Mainly cuz of the outfits they wear and the sexy bodies and the moves she does just puts an Image in the guys head of how amazing she would be in bed

  • USED to be they had larger breasts to show off and jiggle as part of the show but these days not so much sexual side to them.

The appeal through the years always has been the ego boost via sexual conquest/sharing of a more popular than you queen that stooped to your seduction powers.

What was that quote about there's no difference in sex with a pauper or a princess except in one's mind?

  • Because they're literally there to be sex objects. That is their job. Sex sells. Never forget it.
No, I never wanted to be one, because I'm not an empty headed skeez.

    • i never respond to these things but just wanted to give you a heads up that i was a varsity cheerleader for all of high school, and graduated with a 4.7 gpa and am going to one of the best schools in the country. so before you call people sneezy for what they enjoy maybe you should get your facts straight :)

  • It is what it is. And its always been this way

  • I'm not sure what to say... They wear hardly anything, but that shouldn't stray from the fact that they're Human Beings too! (But yes, they're pretty erotic)

    • One reason is that Cheerleaders are extremely Limber, making their bodies twist, turn, jump... All kinds of things... So it only tests the imagination. It's like a tease!

  • What kind of motivation do you think they're meant for dressed in short-shorts, stomach flashing and tight top pieces?

Why must sex appeal be a bad thing. It's natural and beautiful. Cheerleaders are meant to excite players and crowd. Sure, there's an art to their dancing and acrobatics as well, but one does not negate the other. And as Thatsamazing said, if you're an attractive female engaging in sexy activities you're gonna attract males, it's unavoidable, and it isn't the end of the world.
