Vasectomies are reverseble. Why not just make all Men get them?

And then if they're truly ready to be a father, they can undo them.

What's that? You have problems with this? Yes, you're right, it's wrong to regulate men's bodies like that...

  • A lot of guys on here answered that only specific kinds of vasectomies are reversible. That's not true - almost all of them are able to be reserved. Unfortunately, though, the probability of success goes down over time at a pretty steep curve. Most successful reversals are done within 12 months after a vasectomy. Beyond a year, vasectomies can still be physically reversed, but the man's ability to conceive a child is greatly reduced. After five years, it's nearly impossible.

Also, unlike the vasectomy procedure itself, the reversal is extremely painful, invasive, expensive and prone to infection. It's a major surgery.

If you're on a soapbox about women's access to birth control and/or abortion rights... you'll probably want to find a better comparison than vasectomy.

  • Vasectomies aren't always reversible, and carry risk of complication.

There's absolutely no reason to have two completely unnecessary surgeries, as a form of birth control. That's idiotic.

I agree, women shouldn't have to flood their bodies with hormones, either, but forcing men to undego vasectomies isn't the answer, and it's insulting/offensive to suggest as much.

Men need an alternative birth control option, like the gel that they're trying to develop, which stops the release of sperm, without surgery. Either that, or just use a condom.

    • I got one. Men shouldn't be forced, but you don't want kids or anymore from your loins, as a guy a vascetomy makes senae.

  • Too complex. Why not simply give guys who are obviously going to be shitty fathers a compulsory vasectomy.

  • Reversals are only in theory easy to reverse. Real life might be harder and all depend on the amount of years that passed since the original vasectomy.

The companies that provide reversals have no legal obligation to ensure pregnancies, so if success rate is linked to one single swimming sperm in an ejaculation I understand their great statistics and revenue generation.

  • The success rate of reversing a vasectomy is not that great and it is way more complicated a surgery than the vasectomy itself.

Though there have been some breakthroughs on more easily reversible methods including a clamp versus the cutting and cauterizing of the ends of the tubs. And there was some research into a gel that could be shot into the tubes that would harden. Then later it could be dissolved with another shot.

  • I understand the point you are making about how dumb it is to try to control and dictate what women do with their bodies and I fully agree. Pro-choice all the way.
I just wanted to say vasectomies often aren't reversible.

    • They are, in most cases. Even more in future.

    • After 10 years you might as well give up. Less than 50% success at being able to get anyone pregnant ever again.

  • This post is dumb.

  • What a stupid false equivalence.

  • Don't know

    • Vasectomy is cutting off of the semen cord not removal the testicle , testicles are keep on sac but the cord is cut off and it's not reversible. If it's bind then it's a reversible , so horrible lol.

    • @Strongballs3 Semen is produced in the prostate and seminal vesicle glands. The vas deferen ducts carry sperm cells from the epididymis where sperm are stored and mature after being created in the testicles. Sperm going to the prostate are mature and ready for ejaculation which occurs after stimulation causes the seminal vesicles to empty seminal fluid and mix in the prostate making a potent concoction which the body forces out with pleasurable twitching like contractions.

    • @JonT1993 yeah

  • Wait which part am i agreeing to? Lol

  • Why have surgery twice when for a woman it's just a pill to take every day?

  • They're painful. Also if you want kids there is no reason, because the longer you have one the less certain the success of a reversal is. Your doctor straight up tells you that a vascetomy should be considered permanent.

  • Vasectomoy is permanent , only if the cord is binding then it's can be a reversible. Vasectomy is cutting off the seminal cord. And I don't like that bc i love playing with balls ;)

    • Up to 90 percent of vasectomies can be reversed succesfully.

    • No, you can't joint again the semen cord after a year. It's totally stop their function and very complicated to reverse again. And it's not comfortable for us.

    • It actually has a good success rate within the first 3 years after getting it. 80-90% pregnancy rate as opposed to 100% if you never got one.

    • Show All
  • Reversing a vasectomy doesn't guarantee a return to your previous condition. Abortions involve the termination of life. I don't really see the equivalence.

  • It depends on the health of the person

    • He'd have to be pretty sick to not get one. I don't create antibodies and it was safe for me.

  • Because not all are reversible. There's two types the 1. Where they tie or knot the tubes on a guys balls and dick and the 2. They cut or snip the guys tubes which can't be undone or reversed. And one little slip of a scalpel and forget it you may as well neuter the poor bastard for life

  • Yea it's wrong to regulate men's bodies like it's done with circumcision or wartime conscription

  • Because men value his virility. Men aren't like women who devalues her fertility so much.

  • I heard they are close to a male birth control. I've read that vasectomy is linked to an increase in a form of cancer. I was going to get one until I read that

    • The cancer thing is a myth. They're very safe. I can die with a small cut since I don't create antibodies. My immunilogist said a vascetomy is safe.

    • Wow thank you that's good to know
