Is it ever appropriate to use the opposite sex restroom or locker room?

Obviously the main reason these rooms are separated into male and female is because of the sexual attraction/excitement that exists between them. Other than small children, because they have no sexual desires (or anyone to them) is it ever acceptable to be in the presence of the opposite sex in such a place?

By the way, I'm just referring to regular males and females here, not transgenders or anything like that either. That's a whole other topic.

  • Lockeroom no. Unless you have a small child with you and the child is the opposite sex than you, but you still use the lockerroom for you gender. (I don't know if unisex lockerrooms are a thing? ) restrooms however, at least here in my country where we treat people regardsless of gender as strangers, it wouldn't be too much of a shock if you went into a womens restroom. All you'd really get is raised eyebrows (and can't you read? Looks). I doubt anyone is going to say anything unless they're drunk. I have experienced unisex restrooms and was horrified how many of the opposite sex did not wash their hands. Having a three year old son I sometimes without thinking use the mens restroom. Last time I did that someone did find it a bit odd, but I needed to clear out a poop disaster and really any restroom would do, I just happened to use the mens restroom. He was just like "oh, you're here." And went on with his buisness. I needed to fetch some wetwipes outside for the poop disaster for like a second. When I got back I realized he was using the urinal. And then it dawned on me I maybe should have thought twice about using the mensroom with my son. Conclusion: lockerroom no. Restroom yes if you're a guy in my country you would be using the womens restrooms exactly like women. If you are a woman, maybe think twice about it because mensrooms have urinals and that might be too much for the opposite sex.

That being said though, it shouldn't really matter when it comes to restrooms. We (at least I) don't worry about gay people using the restroom. So really. All restrooms should be unisex with a separate room for urinals and it would always be appropriate to use the restroom regardless of gender.

    • Well, you should have taken your son to the women's room since you know the difference. I think opposite sex in the restroom only works when everyone involved is completely unmoved by the situation. As I said, a small child has no sexual desire or appeal and an adult in the restroom won't feel anything about the child so there's no excitement or embarrassment towards anyone.

  • No it is never appropriate I don't want a male coming into the female bathroom to use the bathroom

  • ImagineI was bending over to wash, turn around and there he is, I'd, scream,,,

  • No because as you said there is sexual excitement between both genders, men tend to more dominant around sex so there is a probability of a few rapes every so often, sure not all men are rapists but the minority of a problem are still a problem in this circumstance.

For kids it can mess with their sexual development if they are able to see their peers naked, what if they develop sexual fetishes around using public toilets and they don't really have a say about it.

    • Why would it mess with their development? They don't understand or care yet if very young. There's only sexual excitement between adults of different genders, children don't matter so this is why separation isn't necessary. A man taking his little girl into the men's room or woman her boy into the women's is much different than the adult using the opposite one. No one will be aroused or embarrassed by the child, and the child won't be either, but they likely will be by the adult

  • litterally at every club or party location i've ever been to, women use the male toilet stalls at some point, cause most men just use the urinals anyway and women take way longer with their lady business so they overcrowd the female toilets. you should see those angry looks you get when you're the unfortunate man that urgently needs to take a dump...

    • Yeah I've also seen that happened many of times

  • I've seen women use the men's room, when the ladies room has to long of a line. It has never bothered me at all. I just figure she has to pee bad enough to be there.

  • Went on choir tour one year and at a rest stop the bathrooms only had 1 toilet a piece. So many ladies had to go so they took over both rooms and stood guard. Guys just peed in the woods. Seemed like a reasonable use of the opposite room at the time.

  • Restroom, if it is vacant and the men's is full or inaccessible.

  • No if you have to go. go

  • Only if it's a single restroom and there's no line and someone's in the other one and you're going to be quick. And if you keep it clean.

  • I've used single-user women's restrooms a few times, when the other was occupied and it was urgent.

In terms of multi-user restrooms, I haven't intentionally (but did accidentally), but a number of times I've seen women come in and use the stalls in the men's restroom when there was a big line for theirs.
