The girl in question may be personalizing this, maybe it's valid, maybe it's not. There is a reason people are/used to be in committed relationships and especially marriage. It is some kind of process and commitment to oneself of what the expectations are. Without that, there is nothing and thus should be no expectations.
Maybe the sex got boring, or the girl's personality started to wear on him. Guys don't like no-strings-attached as much as women think. A lot of men's attitudes about fuck buddies comes from the general tor**** of abuse we get from women when we try to do right by them, so it becomes more of a coping mechanism than something we actually want or enjoy.
